Most difficult pistol to clean?

SGB; I take pride in keeping my weapons clean. But it sounds like you are going a little overboard.More damage is done by overcleaning than undercleaning. As far as the toughest gun to clean I would have to agree with legion3.The desert eagle is not really hard to clean but it is time-consuming.Many parts to keep track of.

My vote goes to the S&W 4006 (and similar models). It has a complex trigger mechanism that you better not fool around with unless you want to aid UPS in their highway robbery scheme. The walls of my shop are in danger whenever I put the recoil spring in place. That's the screwiest method of spring retention of any gun I know.

As for the Ruger Mark II, like win1300 said, it is difficult the first few times but once you understand the technique you should be able to strip it and get it back together in 1 or 2 minutes, tops. Here is an excellent description of the proper technique:

I'll chime in for the Mark II. I can do it (and did it for a family at the range a couple of weeks ago) but all those weird angles suuuuuck.

Here's another vote cast for the Ruger MK-II;
the most simple auto loader would be the Sig-
Sauer "P" series.

my beretta 92 is pretty hard also. there are too many little crevaces to get into.

its not the cleaning that hard just the drying it off. i scrub away all the dirt but then i gotta get all the solvent out of the little cracks. not easy.

especially yesterday when a spring flew out at me and it took me 30 minutes to find out where it goes and how to get it back in. ;-)

Have you guys tried a P7M8? fixed barrel kinds sux for cleaning, and the gas chamber. also getting the crud off the piston can be a pain. I also completely disassembled it once to clean. total pain. too me forever to put it back together.

This is really an old wives' tale that just refuses to die. When you learn about the one minor "trick" with the hammer strut, the Ruger is no problem at all to field strip and clean. I'd much rather take my MK-II apart than my Luger.

I happen to have one of those, I've had it for at least 20 years. It's no match for the MK-II in any capacity.

Speaking of gun cleaning, has anyone else here discovered Flitz?
It's a metal polish that works great for gun cleaning. It's non-toxic,which allows me to clean my gun in the living room, rather than in the bathroom with the door closed and window open. Great stuff.
I knew some day someone would discover a cleaning agent that was less hostile to human life than Hoppes..........

RUGER MKII?

I just did a complete strip and cleaned every part by hand in 10 minutes time.
They can be a bi**h Until you get the feel of putting them back together. My Ruger P95 is the easyest gun to clean.
But the ? was the worst! Try striping a luger now there some fun. or a Phoenix Arms HP-22 without scratching it.
Mabey the ruger is so easy for me is because
I shoot it 3 time a week and strip and clean it after every firing.
If anyone has a manual for a stroeger luger please email me.

I'll second the SW 2206 vote. What other gun requires a spent casing to break down. Also, the guides and trigger assembly are a real pain. I use gun patches w/hoppes and use long toothpicks to get 'em into those hard to reach areas.

My vote is for a Ruger MK11. The first time I took it apart (pretty easy to disassemble)I was up to 4am (next day was even a work day) trying to get it back together again. At 4am I finally went on the Internet and found some good samaritan's web page explaining the tricks of reassembly. I never took it apart again and finally sold it. I just can't justify owning a gun I'm afraid to field strip.

I found the comments about the ruger mkII interesting.

I have a mkI and I would say it is the easiest gun I have to clean. With no tools other then the magazine, I can break my mkI down in about 15 seconds. Assembly is about 20 seconds (have to flip the hammer strut into position). I better not buy a MKII.

My vote for hardest to clean is any revolver. My little diamonback is a pain because of all of the nooks and crannies that get full of unique after a good range session.
