Most Accurate in 9mm / .357MAG

I know I am going to get some posts about .45s and others, but I put the limit on 9mm and .357MAG because in the past these are the two calibers I have shot the best. And so here it is:

In either of these calibers, which handgun used for concealed carry, has been the most accurate your HAVE fired?

The two best I have fired was a Ruger SP101 .357MAG 2 1/4" and a Glock 26.

Mechanical accuracy in a concealable weapon is seldom a factor.
A guy here has a heavily modified Colt OACP that is as accurate as a match gun from a Ransom Rest, and I have one nearly as good, but the short butt and sight radius limit their practical accuracy to what you can hold.

The most functionally accurate is usually the biggest you are willing to go to the trouble to conceal. Which makes my choice of .357 revolver a 2.5" M19 and the 9mm auto a Springfield Ultra Compact.

I’ll obey the parameters given by the OP:
9mm vs 357,
concealed carry.

For this purpose and of these two I have fired a Ruger SP101 357 and a S&W 9mm.

The 9mm was rented in order to qualify for an SA CHL instead of revolver only.

I found the 9mm to be as accurate in my case as the 357. However, I’m old and a bit shaky so the accuracy, or inaccuracy, was more a function of me than the guns. However, I did score 236 out of 250 with the 9mm on the CHL test (excuse me for a moment while I pat myself on the back).

Considering that concealed carry for self defense is probably going to be up close and quick I see little difference, but I do carry a Ruger LCR 38 Special all the time and a Ruger SP101 when I wear an over garment.

I’ll not get into which round is the better “stopper”. Ye gads! I just did.

The most accurate 9mm handgun I've carried concealed is a BHP.

I have a Python in .357 magnum that is super accurate but I've only carried it in a "Day Planner" thing off body.

9 M/M Vs. .357

As Mr. Watson said, “Mechanical accuracy in a concealable weapon is seldom a factor.”
In off hand shooting most handguns and calibers are as accurate or more so than the shooter, so pick the weapon that you feel most comfortable with. For me it’s the .357 hands down every time over the 9 M/M. I understand that I am old fashioned but I do not understand why so many people feel the need to have 20 + rounds on there person at all times. As I have posted before the armed citizen will never be involved in a protracted shoot out.

Safe shooting all

Perhaps I can elaborate a little. I believe shot placement is the most important thing here. In the heat of things, nobody can keep calm enough to put on the button. I am a point shooter and can hit whatever I look at. So this is why I am looking for the most accurate in either of these calibers. I used to cut down broom handles inch by inch with my old Glock 26 without having to try.

AdamSean,
I'm not trying to be a PITA but if you were cutting down broom handles with a Baby Glock "without having to try" maybe you have a better idea than some of us.

But if we limit to smaller carry guns and to combat accuracy...

In .357 I pass on the J frame sized guns. I am not accurate enough at speed with a J frame in .357 to satisfy myself. In .357 I go with a K frame snubby. The M19 with a 2 1/2" barrel and the M13 with a 3" are what I've had for awhile and I'm pleased with them.

In .357 what load is used is a big factor in shootability. I think it's best to find the load that you shoot best out of a particular gun and stick with that rather than use what folks may say is "the best" self defense load.

In 9mm the smallest I've shot has been the Glock 19 a Star Firestar and several Kahrs. For what I was looking for the G19 was too large and bulky I also had to work too hard to shoot it well. I was not impressed with the Kahrs. The Firestar worked well for me, unfortunately I traded it after a few years. So in 9mm a small carry gun is an empty niche at present (or rather it's filled by other guns in other calibers).

H&K P7 is the most accurate carry gun I have shot in 9mm. I don't classify the 210 as a carry gun.

In 357 Mag, it has to be the pre-27 3.5".

I have one of each for CCW. The 9mm is Kahr PM9, and out to what I consider a reasonable ccw engagement range (15' or so) it's quite accurate.

The .357 I picked up recently, a S&W 649, hasn't made it to the range yet so I can't comment on its accuracy.

Well gents, I made my choice. It took me a while of deep thought, but I went with a Springfield XD-9 Sub-Compact 9mm. It just felt better in my hand than a Glock and it was cheaper with extras. I was hoping it would be as accurate until today. Its just as good if not better. Take a look for yourself keeping in mind I have not been to the range in almost 8 months.

29 rounds off hand at 7 yards.

All rounds were rapid target acquisition double taps at 5 yards.

I am a happy boy.

I'll take a K frame S&W .357 mag in 4" ( model 19 or model 66 )...

and in a 9mm - a 1911 all the way / Wilson Combat 5" protector model ...

I agree. Short of my Sig 210...my older Hi-Power is the most accurate 9MMs out of the box that I have ever shot.

That said...my Beretta 92 ain't no slouch either...;)

9mm Kahr T9 is the most accurate production handgun I have ever fired or seen fired. I just about crapped my pants the first time I fired mine off a rest. Then i felt like crap b/c I knew all the spread in my groups was my fault. I have seen several highly customized 1911's used in NRA shoots that were more accurate, but they all cost a lot more or represented years of hobby work by their owners. That said, even my hi-point shoots accurately enough that in a defensive situation I would not be at a disadvantage b/c of its accuracy.

My only 357 is a 6" GP100. Everyone I know who has a 357 has a GP100 or SP101. They aren't terribly accurate but they will easily get the job done.
