Most accurate 9mm for carry?

I am what you would call a 1911 fanatic. I have a total of three 5 inch full size government models, a commander and a ultra CDP. I shoot once a week and love the accuracy of my 45’s.
The problem is that I am in the market for a 9mm for carry, but don’t know what to buy. Since I shoot often, I want the 9mm because I feel it is still an excellent defense round and also affordable to shoot. Because of being spoiled with the accuracy of my 1911’s, I don’t wont to by something that will not shoot better than me. So basically, I’m looking for the most concealable
and most importantly accurate 9mm I can find.

I narrowed it down to ether the Kahr K9, Sig p239and Sig p225 for my options. I would greatly appreciate any info and thoughts on reliability and accuracy of my choices.

Thanks
:)

Any one of those three would be fantastic. I've owned one of them (P239) and shot them all. Of the three, I'd probably lean towards that P239.

That being said, what have you tried out at the range? What works for any of us may not suit you at all.

Also, since you're a big 1911 fan, have you thought about the possibility of a BHP? It's a little bit bigger than the three you listed, but not that much, really.

The most accurate 9mm for carry is probably the H&KP7 in either the 8 or 13 round version.

Its a little pricey (but not as bad as a SIG P-210), and it has an awkward manual of arms -- being a Squeeze Cocker. A VERY accurate gun.

But if concealability and accuracy are your primary considerations, then that's the gun to get. If price enters into it, the SIG P-239 or the Glock 19 are good choices.

(I found the P-239 too small for my hand, and don't like the "blocky" Glock grips. But they're both good guns.)

K-9? P-239? P-225?

As far as "most accurate" of the three you listed, probably the P-225. Best sight radius, and call me prejudiced, but IMHO the German P-225's have better triggers than the American-made P-239's.

My roomie's P-225 was darn near as accurate as a P7.

One thing about picking "the most accurate 9mm", is that it's likely to be one of the larger choices. If the reason you're looking at the 9mm is because of the size of your other calibers, maybe you should be evaluating them based on "SD Accuracy". If a 9mm can keep all it's shots in a paper plate at 25 yards, it's plenty accurate for defensive use. While it's always nice to have the maximum accuracy, you may be sacrificing the ease of carry for accuracy that isn't really necessary.

In order of accuracy:

HK P9S (if you can find one)

P7

Walther P5

225

The P7 would be the best overall choice.

If accuracy is of concern, and you are already used to cocked and locked. Allow me to suggest the CZ75B. I have two 9mm that I use for carry, a G19 and a CZ75. The CZ75 is hands down the winner in the accuracy dept.

The 225 is my carry gun. Ergonomically sound, great pointer and incredibly accurate. 8 + 1, and an extra magazine, and I don't feel underpowered at all.

Sig P239

I have a Kel-Tec P11, Sig P239, and P7M8. For carry I prefer the P239, although the P7M8 is more accurate. I just think the P7M8 is too nice to carry ;)

3 good choices. My preferences from your selection are:

1. 239 (size, price,accurate)
2. 225 (more accurate),
3. Kahr (toughness, slim).

For me I prefer higher capacity with efficient size in addition to accuracy, durability and reliability. The HK USP compact with a 6.81 inch. slide, 13+1 rounds, cocked and locked, 1.14 inch width, 5 inch grip win hands down. I am willing to sacrifice the 2 extra rounds that the Glock 19 would give in about the same pistol size
for the external safety and cocked and locked option.

The two most accurate 9mm pistols I have fired are the Sig P225 and the Browning HiPower. I have fired a great deal of, but not all of, the 9mm pistols on the market.

Among 9mm carry guns I would have to say H&K P7M8 is generally the most accurate (assuming Sig210 is not considered carry gun), reliable and fastest into action pistol.

I currently have a P7M8 that will shoot at around 1" from 25 yards (using Federal 9BP) when I do my part behind the trigger. I have owned 3 other P7M8 pistols in past 10~11 years and my experience is that they are all very accurate and can usually do under 1.5" with accurate ammo. It is unusual to find a P7M8 that will not do under 2".

Most Accurate 9mm IMO and most others seem to agree:

1. HkP7
2. CZ75B, etc
3. Sig P226, P228, P229

Sig P210- by far and away from the rest

Lot's of very good, accurate 9m/m's out there. I have owned,
and test driven quite a few of them; and I will list them in order
of accuracy :

1. Sig-Sauer P228 & P226 (Virtual Tie)
2. Browning Hi-Power "Practical"
3. Glock 17
4. Beretta 92FS Centurion
5. Smith & Wesson 39-2
6. Smith & Wesson 459
7. Smith & Wesson 59

Some of the other 9m/m weapon's that qualify and fall some
where into my scale would be: Glock's 19 and 26, CZ 75, and
Walther's P88. Most likely all of these would push the Smith's
further down the scale? Keep in mind that these are only the
weapon's that I am familiar with; have owned, or shot and
test driven.

Follow Up: I did not mean to slight the very fine H&K USP, or
the P7M8. My original post was very early in the wee AM hours,
and I wasn't fully awake. The USP would actually be in the #2
slot, with the P7M8 making a strong showing for first or second
and all else sliding down the scale by one digit.

Best Wishes,
Ala Dan, Life Member N.R.A.
