mossberg vs remington 870 what is better??

I own an 870, used to own a Mossy 835, and my bro. owns a Win1300, so I have shot all 3 fairly extensively.

I agree that the Mossy is the only one that has the safety where it needs to be.

That said, I sold my Mossy and kept my 870 because its a bit lighter and seems to balance better for me. But its a very slight preference. All 3 are fine shotguns.

I've owned both

I've owned (and now own) a Savage, an Ithaca, a few Remington 870's and a Mossberg 500. IMHO...the Ithaca was pure unadulterated junk, the Savage is just alright. The Mossberg was much better but nothing comes close to the 870's. I've had some Expresses that were good guns and one Wingmaster that was great. I traded my Browning Citori O/U for the Wingmaster and used it for years. Put over 50,000 shells thru the thing (I'm not kidding...at least 250 rounds per week, usually more, 50 weeks per year, 5 years at least...do the math.) Never needed repair, just kept going and going. Cleaned it religiously, meticulously, and the gun never let me down. I never had a feed or ejection problem with the gun. And considering that most of what I shot were my reloads, that's pretty good. (ONLY shot Remington Premier shells, low brass, IMR 700x powder, CCI primers, Claybuster figure 8 wads, and 7&1/2 shot.) except for hunted with factory loads.

You can't go wrong with any of those you mentioned.

That being said, I happen to be a Mossberg guy. I really like the clean lines, the look & finish of the Classic 870 Wingmaster, but the Mossberg "fits" me better.

Find the one that "fits" you, be it Ithaca, Remington, Mossberg, Winchester. The buy cases of ammo and "Practice/practice/practice." Or as one of the other members says BA/UU/R

Buy Ammo Use Up Repeat

OMG not this again......

 They both have their advantages, both are great. I'm an 870 man,
but handle each, and decide which feels better to you.

870 all the way.

Sorry, but I've ownd the Mossberg 500 and a few 870's. The 870 Express was a good gun, my Mossy 500 was good too but I favor the 870 because for me the controls just feel right. Probably just familiarity though. My 870 Wingmaster though was absolutely one great gun, WAY better than the Mossberg. Sorry I ever sold it.

kymasabe- back up a step if you would. Why do you feel the Ithaca 37 is "pure, unadulterated junk"? It was a commercially successful shotgun for decades, saw craploads of military and police use and let's not forget JM Browning's genius lies at its heart. Just curious- what's behiind your assesment?

Unless you are talking about the Remington 870 Police, the Rem 870 Express, Mossberg 500/590, Winchester 1300, FN, etc. are all of comparable quality IMHO. Pick the one that feels right to you. The 870 Police is a major step up in terms of durability, i.e, upgraded parts (sear, recoil spring, trigger housing, etc.). As you would expect, it also is more $.

I own a Rem 870 Police and a Winchester 1300. The 1300 is a very nice shotgun. It sits in my closet but doesn't get a lot of range time. The 870 Police is built to withstand a nuclear attack. It gets fired a lot.
