I've owned both
I've owned (and now own) a Savage, an Ithaca, a few Remington 870's and a Mossberg 500. IMHO...the Ithaca was pure unadulterated junk, the Savage is just alright. The Mossberg was much better but nothing comes close to the 870's. I've had some Expresses that were good guns and one Wingmaster that was great. I traded my Browning Citori O/U for the Wingmaster and used it for years. Put over 50,000 shells thru the thing (I'm not kidding...at least 250 rounds per week, usually more, 50 weeks per year, 5 years at least...do the math.) Never needed repair, just kept going and going. Cleaned it religiously, meticulously, and the gun never let me down. I never had a feed or ejection problem with the gun. And considering that most of what I shot were my reloads, that's pretty good. (ONLY shot Remington Premier shells, low brass, IMR 700x powder, CCI primers, Claybuster figure 8 wads, and 7&1/2 shot.) except for hunted with factory loads.
