Mossberg model 152

Thanks very much for that valuable information. I will print it so I can keep it. I am very new to shooting probably one year or so. I tried years ago to learn by my sister (a deputy in New Orleans). However, she yelled at me for something, scared the heck out of me and I never tried again until about a year ago in TN. She let me shoot her 38, 45 and compact 9. I liked the 9, the best so went to get one. I took many classes at the range and shoot my 9 pretty well. I know nothing of rifles other than just shooting my sisters AR15. It was VERY nice.

So here I am to learn and absorb, so once again thanks for the time to share with me.

I am concerned with the issues in trying to purchase ammunition these days. I hope my enjoyment of shooting does not come to a quick end. I am concerned prices will rise considerably.

Mossberg .22s are an addition. You start with one then you end up scouring the shows for them. They are gaining alot of popularity the last couple years too. I have a few myself. They were well made and many had some very nice wood on them. I would have jumped on a complete 152 for anything under $225 in very good condition.

Here's my small herd, front to back: 146B T-bolt, 144LSB, 25A, 44US

And here's a weirdo, PMA-1P. Yup, it came from the factory like that:

I have others, but they're camera shy.

Bigfatts,

The PMA-IP looks like it would be very fun to shoot. Your other rifles are really nice. Great photo, thanks for sharing.

Which is your favorite gun to shoot, rifle, pistol...

Thanx for the compliments. I prefer rifles, my favorite fun gun is the 146B in the forefront of the group pic. I paid $100 for it in a pawn shop. It is one of the most accurate guns I own, even out shoots most of my heavy bbl target guns. The tube mag holds 19 LR or twenty-something shorts. Great for a walk through squirrel country.

PS- I haven't shot the PMA yet, bought it as a project. Needs a firing pin and it originally came with a 30 round banana mag I still need to get.

Mossberg 152

I see that this thread has been resurrected several times, and it hits close to home. I have one of these that my dad bought for me in the 1950's.
It is still the most accurate .22 that I own!
Mine is an early model with the hinged part of the forearm made out of walnut rather than the black plastic of the later ones. It has a Lyman peep sight, which may have been optional, as some of the other ones I have seen had aperture sights that looked like they might have been made by Mossberg.
There were several later minor changes to the gun as well as the model numbers.

The comment by Gary H about it going full auto: they can do this if the action gets cruddy. A good cleaning should fix it.

Bigfatts - Do you know when the PMA-1P was made? I have never see one!

mossberg

mine are older.long ago I bought a 42b in hardwear store for $7.50 new.now I have a 42b and a 46b plus a 44us and a 144.very interesting the explanation
on ammo holders.long before you were born we called them clips.course we did not know the proper english so we called them what every one else called them.

Teddy, is your remark re: clips/magazines: "... long before you were born WE (emphasis added) called them 'clips." intended for me?
Unless you were born, and were an active shooter prior to 1935, you didn't call them anything BEFORE I was born. I recall discussions in gun publications of 50 years ago, in which the correct terminology was addressed. And my explanation of the correct terminology conforms to current (that means TODAY's) usage, not some historical/local jargon of the past.
In this great land, you are free to call it what you choose. Precision in communication is becoming a lost skill, anyway, no need to justify your spelling, punctuation or usages to those of us who still value clarity in discourse.

mossberg 152

I am new to these boards so I hope you will bear with me,.......I have a Model 152 Mossberg, my dad was the original owner of this rifle, I am in the process of trying to sell it and was wondering what is a good price for it. It is in decent shape for a rifle that has seen use, in other words it has some scratches on it, some light rust on the barrel, but it is not pitted and in no way damaged other than what I have just said. It is all there except the sling. I even have the original seven round magazine that it came with.

I have seen complete 152s go for $200+ in excellent condition. Complete in average condition probably 150-175 or so. Do me and your dad a favor though, go shoot it first. You might not sell it if you do.

This seems to be the best thread to find my answer, so here goes.
I just bought a mossberg 152 and it seems to be in very nice shape. I did take it apart and refinished the stock. I used tung oil, and it turned out very nice.
My question is: is there a saftey? I sure can't find it if there is.
Thanks,
Steve

If a vintage Mossberg semi-auto doubles or goes "full auto", the action is loaded with gunpowder residue and needs cleaning. Only had it happen once, and no big deal, but nowadays it can get you in serious trouble with the Feds or other law enforcement.

The safety on the old 152 is on the bolt handle - just pull it back to the first detent on the receiver and push in. Pull it out to release the bolt when ready to shoot.

I still have my 152 that my Dad bought for me when I was a teenager many years ago. I think it is the most accurate .22 I own.

mossberg 152

I figured as my first post I'd add to this thread. I first shot this model when I was 15 back in 1965. It belonged to a friend and I fell in love with it although I had long ago forgot what model it was I do remember pulling down the fold down forearm and machine gunning squirrels. Flash forward to last week when I located one on Gun-broker and won it. Did I need it..No
Must be something about reliving the good old days.:D

Fav gun. wish I had another oem mag.

I was taught to shoot with this gun by my grandfather when I was 14. I have owned a couple stevens and shot many other brands. This is still my fav and will never part with it. I use it all year. I was hoping to find an original 7 shot clip/magazine. I bought 2 of those aftermarket ones from havilan years ago. One came appart at the welds and the other works only partly. The original has the guide at the back as part of the sheet metal pressing. The after market one has the guide spot welded on as an extra part. Also, the flange at the back of the oem where the rim of the bullet fits in, is longer and straighter than the aftermarket.
I don't know why they couldn't just reproduce the original, and make it a tiny bit longer. Here's hoping I can find an oem. Z

Pic of magazine comparison

Made a collage of 10 shot aftermarket (left) and 7 shot factory original (right)
