Mossberg 590 bayonet

jrfoxx,

I have to disagree: Killing a criminal is a public service, even the duty of a decent citizen, and I have no trouble with that at all. In fact, if it were up to me, prisons would be emptied overnight. No, prisoners wouldn't be released...well, not in the living sense, if you will.

When I came back from RVN, I did not have the nightmares/emotional trauma of death/killing some of the other guys coming back did. I guess calmly throwing out the trash just comes natural to me, whoever they may be.

Still, I ALSO hope criminals do not come to MY place...that way they won't get themselves killed and I don't have to clean the resulting mess off my carpets/walls, but that's the ONLY way they're going to avoid that outcome. All of them.

And if they get me -- after all, I'm no Superman -- I really don't care, but I will NOT make it easy for them.

So other people can do as they wish -- holding said criminals for the police, scaring said criminals away (so they can live to commit the same crimes on other decent people) -- but these are not really options for me.

In short, to each his/her own.

Regards,

-- John D.

Cloud, you're right. A hardened and experienced thug knows that even though you are racking one, you may not have the stones to plug him (and to a lesser degree her). The bayonet is good for scaring the smash and grab thieves or sticking them after they keep coming to help ensure they don't enjoy living.

I say chest shots all the way and if they're still coming, stab with a good ol' Marine Special. That's learns them.

Big Mac,

If he/she (let's be PC "inclusive" now) keeps coming after getting solid torso hits from a 12-gauge...he/she can have me! ;-)

I gots me that 590A1 yesterday and have been messing with it. Now I'm thinking of all the Add-ons I wanna put on it but so far I just bought a Vietnam era bayonet for it (the M7 I believe it is called, it's from Vietnam, the scabbard is really old) and if that doesn't scare them, the shells from the box of 25 S&B (the Czech stuff) 00 Buck (yes, a box of 25 buckshot is out there, if you look around) should do the trick. Anyone who can survive that isn't human. I'm wondering if you can customize a heat shield to fit around the ghost sit, it's looks like i can be done.

Sure it can...if you're mechanically-inclined and good with tools -- especially a Dremel -- then anything is possible!

That's one thing I also would like to do later on...

Good luck,

-- John D.

Well it looks like a precision cut job, though I was told by the gun dealer who sold it to me that a heat shield will scratch up the heavy barrel, that's why they don't put them on. I'm sure that can also be worked out if one were to analyze it. Though I've also heard (I hear a lot of things, don't I?) that the heavy barrel may be too thick for the heat shield, once again I'm assuming that a little work on it can alleviate this. Any suggestions? Jeers? Cheers? Tom Arnold?

No, no suggestion here...I don't have a heatshield yet so I can't see exactly how I would alter it to fit...and still look good. And how it will be done is up to the guy doing it according to his design and skill level.

It's got to look like it came with gun in the first place...but I sure won't be doing any crude "hack jobs" (often the result of many "home DIY gunsmiths" unfortunately).

Eventually, I will get one -- when I see what's available out there (I believe it's pretty much the same "universal" shield (blued, not Parkerized even) when I looked several years ago) -- but presently I don't have one...I have more important projects I need to finish first.

-- John D.

P.S. Someone SHOULD produce a Parkerized heat shield just for the 590A1...a niche-market probably, but still there IS a market for such a product.

Definitely, I'm surprised Mossberg didn't do it already. They made the damn gun, how hard can it be to make an accesory to it?
