Mossberg 464 lever action .30-.30 carbine

Just to clear up a couple of misunderstandings -

The extractor wasn't broken - it just didn't function - not an easy task to produce a malfunctioning part that doesn't even move.

Mossberg didn't "stand behind" it or pay the most cost of fixing it - the shipping cost - they just replaced (I assume) a two bit metal ring with a tab to extract cartridges. I could have bent the tab down myself and saved the cost of shipping.

Next failure was a broken screw as I was loading the rifle - does it sound like cheap parts ??

Most impressive was Mossberg's totally ignoring the cusomers who had malfunctions due to parts not functioning - I haven't heard a word from them or know of anyone who has.

Producing the 464 was not going into strange territory for Mossberg in making lever rifles. Some 20 years ago they listed about a half dozen lever rifles in 30-30 down to rimfire - none of which are still produced or listed for sale - they failed then and, I predict, have failed again. I would lay money on the likelihood of the 464 being out of production in the next year or so - like their predecessors did.

I refuse to do business with any company who doesn't take care of customers when one of their products has so many problems while in still new condition. As far as I can see, they have been totally indifferent - I have sure been ignored.

sold my marlin 336 for a mossberg 464 and I am glad I did, those calling mossberg 464 junk I'd bet 10-1 they never owned one! Most repeat what other mods and high count post people say, the 464 is an improved version of the win94.

My standard bet is $100 - send me mt $1000 by wire - as you can see in my post just above yours, I sure owned one - but managed to trade it in to a local gun dealer for a used good condition Winchester 94.

I'm a little curious how you could post a statement like that just under my post describing the problems I had with the one I bought.

OTOH - I suppose it is remotely possible Mossberg may have cleaned up their act and are turning out better quality now than they did initially.

I would wish you good luck with your new purchase - Mossberg is not new in producing imitation 94 rifles - they made some half dozen or so variations around 1990 - give or take a few years - none have been on the market for at least a decade - doubt that suggests they were any success - but, their shotguns seem popular so - I suppose there is an outside chance they might have learned something.

The one thing I know they didn't learn is how to take good care of customers to whom they sold a defective gun.

I had one of the older Mossberg 30-30's given to me years ago as a 'big box of parts'. I fumbled around and finally got it together; it was as good a any 336 I ever owned. I tried to like the 464, but Winchesters are my preference and used Winchesters are invariably cheaper.

why is it that forum clowns alway rely on post counts for information, if Jeff Cooper just joined "RIP" my friend, his count would start at zero, I guess he would be stamped as "doesn't know chit"
