Get those men out of there now. There is no course to stay, there never was. There is no clear mission. We can't force these people at the point of a gun to be a democracy, pure democracy is not all it's cracked up to be anyway. The many different tribes of Iraq, and indeed the entire middle east, have been quarreling with each other for thousands of years, what makes us think we are going to solve it now.

"Better to fight them there than fight them here" means absolutely nothing. It's a meaningless slogan.

BTW, no I am not a liberal peacenik "who wants 'us' to fail." I am not a Neo-conservative Yankee. I am a conservative. somewhere to the right of Geo. Washington. I think it was he who warned us against getting intangled in foreign alliances and wars. And as his distant relative Robert E. Lee said a country "that can only be held together with swords and bayonets has no charm for me."

Conservatives: Stop listening to the Rush Limbaughs, the Sean Hannitys the Bill Kristols the Bill Bennetts and the phoney Texian George W. Bush. Go back to your conservative roots predating 1980.

Just two points of emphasis: 1 - A draft will never happen (again) not in your lifetime or in mine; it's far too political and will never gain the required public support to have it return and 2ndly, imbedding American troops with the "Iraq army and police force(s)" in 9 separate sectors in Baghdad is going to have SERIOUS security difficulties that will escalate into more American casualties and fatalities. That's absolutely predictable.

I agree with more troops. And I'm shipping to BCT/AIT for MP school in February. Hopefully I'll be able to get at least one tour before the libs pull us out.

if you dont like how things are done. move to canada.

I like how things are done there even less. But if the draft ever came passed, I would go out and enlist in the Marines before i was even called. I was taught that if your friends and neighbors are forced to go, YOU go too. It's not fair to them.

Like I said, I am no peacenik hippie. But I don't blindly follow the Neo-Conartists inside the Beltway.

I'm not a big fan of more troops in Iraq but we do need a draft if we wish to
remain a world power a draft is needed to provide a rotating force of trained
semi-trained people who can be called on and yes it will happen however it
may be too late.

I'm just curious who you all think should be in the draft. Should it just be for the lower and middle class or should they try something new and include the children of politicians?

No more troops!

Adding 20000 more is symbolic but it will not do the job which is vague to
begin with. The real tragedy is Bush is so idiotic in going to Iraq that
there is no good solution in pulling out of it. Every president afterwards,
and the nation will have to live with this idiocy!. Hello, Bin laden is in
Afganistan, not Iraq! Why on earth were we duped in going there.

Whether we like is or not, we have to be there for a long time in some
capacity or another. We destroyed the whole country's infrastructure,
killed about 50,000 Iraqis and countless more indirectly.

Bush with this "Divine will" mentality really created one of the biggest
foreign policy blunder a US president can make. Oh, that guy Cheney,
who cannot shoot straight is also part of that group.

His dad, G.H.W. Bush is smarter!. He stop before going into Baghdad.

You can't win any war the way our troops have been made to fight in the past couple of years in Iraq or anywhere for that matter......hpg

Quite frankly, I'm not convinced that more ground troops is what is really needed. I think that with a "smarter" deployment there, with more in the way of PR and propaganda efforts (Discredit the terrorists and militias in the eyes of the people, who will then provide us with REAL intel. With that improvement in intel, we can do our mission with what ground troops we have on hand.) and increased efforts to recruit and train the Iraqis to provide the added ground "muscle", we can make due with what we've currently got and still attain victory. No, I don't think that a draft is warranted, and No I am not at all in favor of cutting and running. I just don't think that an increase in troop numbers is absolutely necessary to attain victory, or to even hasten that victory.

I'm for the draft.

I think everyone should get some military and firearms training (we don't have much going anymore like the DCM used to be) because we might need it someday and, it may cut down on the number of future anti-gun/know-nothing-about-guns liberals.

If it doesn't, then we draft only liberals anyway and send them to sorry backwards Islamic countires, without those evil guns, to fight the so-called "war on terror."

A better Idea, Find the enemy, kill the enemy until there is no more enemy. I was taught many years ago, if you must fight hit the enemy with everything you have and don't stop until they quit.

Glad you think so highly of your fellow countrymen. What is there to gain in iraq with more troops other than more death ? Dont be so quick to sign people up for things they dont beleive in or dont complain if it happens to you. I think in a free country men should be able to decide thier own fate and that includes if they want to die in some wack ass war or not.I said this war was going to be nam for my generation and it looks more and more like I might be right.

Oh before you get the idea Im some commie pinko , I agree with this statement 100%
But if the draft ever came passed, I would go out and enlist in the Marines before i was even called. I was taught that if your friends and neighbors are forced to go, YOU go too. It's not fair to them
Im against this war but if my friends are forced they wont die alone.

I voted for more troops, but I have one condition. If you are going to go to war, then go to WAR! You hit the enemy with everything you've got and you don't stop until they submit. If you are not willing to do this then you need to go home, or better yet, don't get involved at all.

War should never be an easy option.

I'll defer to the top military personnel whose duty it is and whose expertise involves translating data and intelligence into strategies and tactics that will ensure a positive outcome. Not as exciting as shaking my fist in outrage, but I refuse to pretend I'm qualified to associate troop levels and conflict levels based on information procured through speculative sources such as a news media with an agenda.

Unfortunately my level of war game experience stacks up to a simple and unimaginative set of equations that just might be brilliant in some elementary way:

a) Losing = Add more troops.

b) Winning = Remove troops, maybe.

Once we’re there and in this deep, the professional warriors need to do their job and have access to resources necessary to get the job done regardless of a whiney public. The men and women with their boots on the ground deserve at least as much.

No more troops..no more troops...no more troops. I would like to NEVER see Iraq again. I signed on to protect The Constitution of The United States, our country, my family, friends, and all of you. Iraq has nothing to do with that. It's a misuse of troops whose job should be to DEFEND our country.

US Army...the original department of homeland security!

***Is it all Iraqis you want killed, or just the minority Sunnis, so we can be on the winning side in the civil war, ie, that of the radical fundamentalist majority Shias? Virtually all Iraqis want the US occupiers to leave. Better to just kill 'em all, I suppose. Then we'll have ready access to all that oil, Israel will be happy, and there will be no pesky natives to quibble about US plans for their country.

Whatever happens, I doubt that the US will be pulling completely out of Iraq. We didn't build all those fancy big bases just to leave. Have you read the book "Imperial Life inside the Emerald City"?
