more than one 22lr pistols?

Does it make sense to own more than one 22lr pistols?

I posted another thread earlier, but overwhelmingly, people suggest that I should get a 9mm because I already have a Ruger Mark III.

I am wondering if I should get a duty pistol in 22lr instead, mainly due to the cost of ammo. I got up early yesterday and was able to purchase three boxes of 22lr ammo from walmart. They are much cheaper than 9mm.

I like my Ruger Mark III Target SS a lot. It's my first firearm. However, I want to get a duty/service pistol to play with, one that I can rack, put in a holster, practice in steel competition. Ruger Mark III is an excellent target pistol, but doesn't have these fun factors built in.

Cost of ammo is my main concern. The cost of the gun itself, not so much.

Please advise. Fairly new to the game. No intention to carry. No needed for home defense (I don't keep my gun loaded at home) ...

Thanks.

Then IMHO you should get the .22.

The current availability situation with .22LR will not last forever. I predict that prices will rise significantly above where they were in late 2012 (which was ~$12/500rd brick for most of the cheap stuff), at least in the short term, but it will still be cheaper than 9mm.

There are a wide range of gun manufacturers who produce .22 lr versions of their service sidearms or slightly downside versions of the same for training purposes as well as general use and fun. These include S&W, CZ, Walther, Beretta, various makers of 1911s and more.

None of these work exactly as their larger caliber brethern. This is because the 22s are generally blowback in semis while the larger caliber guns are recoil operated.

But drop by a gunatorium or gun show and see what's available.

Yes, it does make sence to own more than 1 22 hand gun. I own a semi auto and a revolver, the revolver will shoot the ammo your semi wont. Like shorts and shot shells, and its not ammo brand picky either.

any recommendations?

I watched some reviews of P22 and SR22. It seems like P22 has some problems with the rail. I also want a full size gun, not a compact.

These are not cheaper.... or is PPX just cheap?

I have well over thee dozen 22 pistols, and that does not include the 22 revolvers.
YOU cannot own too many 22 handguns.

I own one of damn near every 9MMPARABELLUM pistol everr made that is worth a hoot and they're STILL all boring as hell tossing all my brass in all the rattlesnake holes. They are MAHvelous at making a fellow treasure his real guns in REAL calibers, Sixguns !!

And so it goes...

.22s

More than one? Of course. I own five (Ruger MK.II, High Standard Victor, T/C Contender with eight and ten inch barrels, a S&W 317, and a Pardini Free pistol). And a .22 conversion for my 1911.
A "tactical" .22......what would that be? What is a "tactical" gun? A gun used in combat.....?? By their nature, all guns can be used in combat. So can baseball bats....imagine a tactical Louisville Slugger.

Nothing wrong with owning several .22's, I have 3 myself. If cost is no issue, take a gander at the Browning 1911-22. Its scaled down, so if you have bigger hands it might not be your cup o tea, but its a nice pistol that always deserves mention when "duty" style .22's are brought up.

Sure.
I like to have a Buckmark Hunter for serious accuracy and a little Walther/Bersa/Beretta for plinking.

I also have a tiny NAA-22LR around for dead of summer pocket carry in gym shorts.

how about colt 1911 in 22lr. it's only around 270.

SR22, P22, M&P22 and PPQ M2-22 are priced very closely.

i don't like the size of sr22 or p22, judging from pictures online.

PPQ M2-22 looks nice.

One Can NEVER Have Too Many .22...

pistols, and that goes for .22 rifles as well. I am going to stray a bit..

My first .22 was a circa ~40's Remington 510A 26" barrel single-shot rifle that was given to me (we lived in Detroit) when I was about 10 years old by my uncle in Riverside CA, and he mailed it to my Dad (pre GCA68). It was a tack-driver with either the Williams peep sight or the Weaver 6x scope my Dad mounted on it. My only complaint was that I had to move the safety to "off" every time I reloaded a cartridge. This was a wise idea by Remington for a trainer-type rifle. I owned it until I gave it to a grand-nephew several years back.

But I digress. At the same period, my grandfather had a nickel Hi-Standard 9-shot Sentinel that was loud when fired at my Dad's indoor basement 50' range (note that we never used ear protection back then) which was my first introduction to handguns. He also had a H&R 999 top-break that I was fascinated with.

I have since owned 2 Ruger MKII pistols and currently have a home-built 1911 (from stripped frame and aftermarket parts) using a 1992 JA Ciener .22 Conversion Kit that runs very well no matter what it is fed.

As others have said, if you can afford it, there is no such thing as too many .22's.

I hate to be among the ones giving you bad news but no, one Ruger .22lr is NOT enough. I have the Target and the 22/45 and missed out on a standard last week. I will find another sooner or later.

this is the wrong place to ask for advice... you guys are all addicted... :p

I am going to wait for a sale on PPQ M2 22. I like the look of it.

Anyone had some experience with the Walther made Colt 1911 - 22?

The answer is always "moar guns" but I do think diminishing returns sets in more quickly with quality 22s than with centerfire handguns. Still, one is certainly too few.
