More nonsense and hypocrisy from Hollywood

"Anti-Gun" actor Sean Penn had 65 guns.......

Does this surprise anyone?

Now he does not have any? OK, believe it if you want to .....

Then again, maybe he doesn't have any ..... but he's got hirelings for that, no doubt.....

Para USA released a statement regretting supplies the firearms for "Taken 3" and urging other gun manufactures not to supply any promotional firearms for any film staring Liam Neeson.

I do believe I shall wait for "Taken 3" to come to Red Box before seeing it now.

Crap. That means I got to replan tonight's date night.

The pitfalls of being a single issue voter. :D

Penn can go fall off into a deep hole for all I care, but I always liked Neeson, seemed like a decent guy on and off screen.
Kinda sucks that he tainted himself this way... boohiss.

I cant figure out why any actor would want to touch the gun issue anyway, especially those who constantly use them throughout much of their career... they're basically rubbing 50% of their "customers" the wrong way... thats never good for business.

These actors and actresses only portray the "glamor and glory" (for lack of better words) of shooting people. I don't think I have ever seen a movie that actually portrays the realities involved in even a justified shoot let alone the blood baths typical of the Taken movies. I did like Penn in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. I suspect it was type casting for that part.

Why can't entertainers stick to what they know, entertaining, rather than trying to make great political or social statements. Many of them ruin their careers by saying and doing stupid things. Their opinions are no more important than mine.

Which part of "18 U.S. Code 922(g)" is Penn in violation of? And does that code refer to mere possession, or is it the purchase or sale of firearms?
Dashunde implies that Mr. Penn may have violated Subsection (g)(1). I discuss the fact that tabloid reports imply he may have also violated Subsection (g)(9), as some of his past actions involved domestic partners.

922(g) applies to shipping, transport, possession, and receipt.

Here's the relevant sections:
(g) It shall be unlawful for any person—
(1) who has been convicted in any court of, a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year;

[(2) - (8) omitted]

or,

(9) who has been convicted in any court of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence,
to ship or transport in interstate or foreign commerce, or possess in or affecting commerce, any firearm or ammunition; or to receive any firearm or ammunition which has been shipped or transported in interstate or foreign commerce.

My memory is hazy on trivial matters, but didn't Mr Penn promise to leave the country if Bush was re-elected? Or was that some other loudmouth who makes his living speaking other people's words?

I cant figure out why any actor would want to touch the gun issue anyway

The simple answer is money.

The sad truth is that a lot of the people who hire actors DO care about the gun issue, and their stance is against "ordinary" people owning guns.

Tell me, what does it say about a person who publically admits to owning 65 "cowardly killing machines"?

Why, I'd have to say that he tends to be a cowardly type of individual.
But, that's just MHO and nothing more. :D

Well, Sean Penn was the one who didn't stick it out against the National Guard in "Taps", thus forcing Tom Cruise to man that M-60 by himself.

That is an excellent scene, yet there are many more realities that don't or rarely are shown in the movies, such as legal problems that must be dealt with.

I dunno; I'd presume that some folks go into the acting business because they love attention, and their big mouths are another manifestation of this. :)

Sean Penn isn't acting out of some great humanity-improving impulse; he's thinking with his aging...equipment. He's dating anti-gun Charlize Theron, who's made some money off gun movies herself, but whose father attacked her mother while drunk and was then shot by her mother. I would think she'd champion self-protection by her mother, but for whatever reason, she blames the gun.

Joe, how do you know that Penn doesn't own guns anymore?

Just going by what he said....unless, of course, he was lying.

"The highest bidder gets every single one of my guns put in the hands of this iconic artist and sculptor…Koons will decommission [and] render inactive all of my cowardly killing machines."

Then again, maybe he doesn't have any ..... but he's got hirelings for that, no doubt...
You hit the nail on the head with that. He'll gladly delegate violence to others (which is what we potentially do when we call the police), but he gets to keep his own hands clean of it.

It really is a shocking degree of hypocrisy.

If he has body guards why is he the one in repeat trouble for roughing up the paparazzi?

There's the apex of the Hollywood gun hypocrisy... be all politically "anti" about guns, contribute to democrats religiously, yet most of their money comes from TV and movies awash with guns and gun violence in all its forms.

The most nauseating I've encountered lately is that show "Scandal" that my wife insists we watch once a week...
They went far far out of their way with a scathing political plot line about how terrible guns are and we should have a lot more gun laws... blahblah... yet every episode or two theres a gun shooting someone, sometimes 3-4 in a single episode.
Meanwhile the writers/producers/actors are cashing LARGE checks from depicting gun violence, promoting gun violence, and desensitizing the masses to gun violence. Dis-gust-ing!

I won't be paying to go to the movies to see either of these smucks, I won't watch anything with either of them in it on tv either.

Time out. Isn't Sean Penn one of those Hollywood celebs who have a history of beating up on women? Who is he to be complaining about "cowardly"?

Seems to me this is a GOOD thing.. He shouldn't own firearms anyway.

If this article is to be believed..
Enraged by press helicopters hovering low over the ceremony in Malibu, he (Penn) found a gun and started firing at them.

Also, assault and battery of a journalist with a rock..
..actor ended up paying a $100 fine for two counts of assault and battery..

You mean Madonna? That happened, but the charges were dropped.
