more from GOA on passage of H.R. 2640

I thought the wording of the bill was clear and concise about what constituted and did not constitute a mental health danger. I read the GOA articles but yet have found anything in the bill to constitute a danger to gun owners. The bill in fact has remedies to allow those who were refused to rectify the situation. The GAO has lost some credibility on this issue imo.

The GOA is unfortunately wading well into the terrority of "spittle-flying, screaming loon" on this issue, IMO. It's all wild allegations and hypotheticals that have nothing to do with the actual language of the bill.

no,i have not read the entire bill, that i will admit.but i do know the devil's always in the details.i'm not going off what GAO says, the only thing that scares me is chucky schumer likes it,that scares me!

Quite frankly, The usual suspects "like it" because now they will get to say that they helped to pass some "significant" gun control. Which in reality it isn't.

The whole suspension of rules. and (non-recorded) voice vote stuff is simply a political means to say they voted against it, should some of their "friends" find out this is actually a good bill and has nothing to do with furthering a gun control agenda.

Alan? Does this satisfy you as to the why it was done in this manner? It was a pro-gun maneuver to get the anti-gun vote.

Politics at its finest, says I!

So come on, convince me why he should have been declared a mental defective/incompetant and commited and declared a danger to himself and/or others and remember this is at a hearing in 2005.
Here's another reason cho was declared a danger to himself that we haven't talked about.
His parents alleged to authorities he might be suicidal? You are denied your right because someone "alleged" you are a danger to yourself? How is that right?

I don't care if you combine this allegation with all of the others we have listed here, it shouldn't be enough to deny your right for life. Judicial activism is the practice of judges ignoring the law and deciding cases based on their personal political views and that's what happened here and it has already happened alot. All of them will now be criminals that possess or try to buy firearms even if they don't know it because of Judicial activism.

Jake,

The parents don't just go in front of a judge and say my son is a danger to himself and the judge has him committed. Doesn't work that way. The person still has rights to due process.

Doesn't work that way.

But it did work that way with the help of some judicial activism. He had his hearing and a court appointed public defender was assigned to him for that hearing. How many others have had a hearing such as this and didn't fully understand the implications to their lifetime Rights. I would wager no one told him ALL the consequences of that hearing. I believe this is just the tip of the iceburg and many, many people have had such hearings where they didn't know the full implications because of poor representation and to expidite mental health treatment whether they need it or not.

The suicide allegation was the worse allegation, at the hearing, imo but was not evidence enough to adjudicate him a danger again imo.
