More Calif. stupidity!!!

She made the payment, filled out the paperwork and when the dealer saw that she stated no on the question if she is a US citizen, the sale was cancelled because she has to provide proof of her residency within the past 90 days such as utility bills, lease agreement, etc. According to the dealer, the ATF came out with this new rule about two weeks ago.

It sounds as though the dealer is trying to blow smoke somewhere that it isn't polite to blow smoke. A simple drivers license is more than sufficient for proof of residency. If the individual does not have a drivers license, then a state identification or other form of legal identification should suffice.

The only time I have heard of someone having to meet residency requirements were when someone was purchasing a hunting or fishing license with ID issued from a different state requesting resident licenses. In that case, yes, utility bills are sometimes required to show that you did reside in the state at that time.

If the BATF did pass such a rule it would be discriminatory because it does not affect U.S. Citizens in the same manner when purchasing a weapon. I personally don't think the dealer wanted to suffer the scrutiny when he had his records checked by the BATF.

That's bullcr*p about the residency. I have stood at the counter while a Mexican National (resident of Mexico) that was here on vacation bought a handgun. It was perfectly legal because he was not a resident of a different state than the one he was purchasing in. The dealer cannot discriminate. He or she has to call in the background check and let the FBI decide. I garuntee, if some moron denied me a sale without calling it in, I would conveniently get mugged of several thousand dollars in cash on the way home and I'd own that dealer and his business for the pain that could have been prevented by that sale had he done his job.

I've got the green and black CQB. It looks positively "tactical" to use an overworked misunderstood term. With the tritium night eyes this Wilson is one BOSS gun! The most accurate handgun I have ever owned...Oh yeah, I live in CA. In every way it's a "Gray" day here.

More NRA members live in California than in any other state.

California gun laws reflect the uselessness of the NRA.

Bowser.

I truly do feel for you guys...

...out in California. It has to be a pretty awful feeling to watch the state you love and call home slide ever-deeper into lunacy. You've been facing (along with residents of MA, NJ, NY, DC, IL, and now MD) the kind of decisions that all of us gun owners will, sooner or later, unless we get this boat turned around; "Do I comply with the law or stand up for my rights?"

I posted here on 6/21 that I had contacted CZ-USA about getting a Nickel CZ 75B on the approved list. They told me they were working on it a few months ago.

Just talked to them again today and they said they are not going to bother with getting the Nickel on the list in Kalifornia. So if you want this gun, you get the blue or polymer finish or you don't get one, at least legally.

They said the fees and BS was just too much for them. The Commie SOB's have succeeded in Kalifornia to seriously limit our choice. What a bunch of garbage. Stinking socialist trash! :barf:

Words from a former Massachusetts resident

I'm originally from Massachusetts and even though I live outside of the state now, all of my family lives in the Commonwealth and I have very strong roots to the state.

It really pains me to see what's going on with the ridiculous legislative actions back home, and in other states like NY and CA. From my experience, there's a lot of folks out there who still see groups like the NRA as extremist and who don't link waiting periods and background checks with gun bans, registrations, and confiscations. So, they just shake their heads and wonder at how crazy society is becoming but there's just no way to make their voice heard. That was the way I felt for a while.

What have I done? I've joined the NRA, trust me they have some lobbying influence. More importantly I've become decidedly more proactive regarding my rights. I let my co-workers know I shoot and I ask them regularly if they'd like to go with me. Whenever the topic comes up, I point out the most ridiculous cases of hypocrisy in the anti-gun movement that I can. I can remember in college I told a friend the old line that if guns are banned only criminals will have them. Weeks later she was still thinking about that statement and I think it really changed her from her previous stance of anti-gun because she had never thought of that before, only what she'd heard on TV. .

Don't get me wrong, I don't rent soapboxes and billboards. But, I try to be polite, tactful and intelligent whenever the conversation comes up. Winning the hearts and minds, one person at a time... If you can make the deer hunter or duck hunter understand that his rights are intertwined with the rights of every gun owner in the country, imagine the voice that you would hear on the political front.
