Model 70, how many rounds before cleaniing?

Someone told me that the 300 WSM kicks hard. My father who was in nam told me to tell the guy to put the stock between his legs and fire because it dont kick that hard.

Now that is funny!

The truth is recoil is something only the shooter can judge. For some a 300 mag packs a punch that they don't want to feel, for others it does not. I shot a 300WSM in a Ruger M77 Mark II and it was alright to me, I would not do what your dad suggested though:D I did have a Browning A-Bolt in 300 Win Mag and it would rattle your teeth it kicked so hard. I shot that gun for years before finally selling and getting something a little more tame.

My .264 Win Mag lasted 640 rounds.

So for four long range matches you never had to touch the windage knob while all others were pulling their hair out over the switch backs. And then, in the middle of match five, the world changed for the worst?
Not exactly, Slamfire.....

Those Norma 139-gr. FMJBT nickel plated bullets leaving about 3100 fps drifted about 7.1 inches per mph of cross wind just like 30 caliber 200-gr. HPMK's from 30 caliber magnums leaving at 2950 fps. But the recoil was a lot less with the .264 Win Mag than the 30 caliber magnums.

A buddy of mine had a custom long range rifle built around a 30 caliber Norma Mag round. I don't remember the specifics, but he wanted to push big bullets fast. I saw him coming off the line after firing that rifle prone for the first time. Blood was streaming down his right eye because the recoil was so heavy the rear sight cut his eyebrow. Shortly after, he sold that rifle.

I only saw a few 300 Win Mag's on the line and those cannons disappeared once good 6.5 mm bullets became available. Anyone who can shoot a rifle, prone with a sling, that pushes a 200 grain bullet close to 3000 fps, and not flinch, is an amazing individual.
