Model 586

QUOTE:

I don't know, I just heard, SOME people go ahead & do what common sense dictates, regardless of what the politicos say. I don't know, just something I heard...

Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

Yes, I was thinking the very same thing.

If there's a will.......there's a way. ;)

I stopped in a LGS today that had a 4" 586 for $699. Unfortunately, older S&W revolvers have went up enough in price that I can't buy 'em any more.

Not hardly. Anyone who has paid attention knows that there are far fewer 586's than 686's and if he's talking about a mint gun, it will take no back seat to a 686.

+1

As much as I like the 686, the I'd take a 586 every time. I own a 686 built in the 90's, Dad owns a sweet 80's 586 and is head and shoulders above mine. The trigger on the 586 is better and the finish is incredible.

In Memphis

I wonder what the chances are that if I'm ever in the Memphis Tenn area, Bob Wright would let my unload a cylinder's worth through that sweetie 4"? :-)

Beautiful guns. Both of them.

anyone who chases L-frame Smith & Wesson revolvers will tell you quickly how scarce the 581 and 681 guns are.

681 I found while lookin for a 686....

U got a really good deal on that 586(understatement)....I don't see em often....

I'm not up on CA. gun laws, but why is a revolver so hard to get?

There are only two ways that used guns can enter the used gun market in the Peoples Republic of California;

1. If someone moves into the state, they can bring in the handguns they already own, fill out a form, pay $19 and then their guns are legal.

2. If the guns are already legally in the state and they decide to sell. They must be transferred through a FFL dealer and the new buyer has to pass the background check. Then the dealer has to hold the gun for ten days before the new owner can take possession.

Yep, all these stupid laws have made the PRC a much safer place.....right?

I was finally able to escape and move to a free state a month or so ago. I only wish that I had been able to pull it off much, much sooner.

I had wondered about the specifics of a guy with handguns moving residence in to California with non-roster guns. You make it sound like even guns that California would NEVER legally allow for sale... are legally allowed to be brought in and then re-sold as used guns by someone who moves to California.

Would it not be a legal work-around for someone to "move to California" with a whole heckuva -LOT- of personally owned guns? For whatever stated purpose... and "live there" for a length of time... and then move away?

Sorry for the thread drift.

Highpower 3006-- You can move to Ca. with all the guns you want, but any of them are not on the SB15 LIST you are a felon. The $19 form is for "intrafamilial" transfers. You can avoid the dealer to dealer transfer & use it to REGISTER up to 3 handguns for $19... So long as they are on the LIST.

sevens--NO..that's the point.

It depends on your "intent"

If you move into the PRC with a truckload of guns and then start selling them, that could be construed as intent to do business without a FFL. That would no doubt get you trouble with the authorities.

It is interesting to note that as business, you can't legally import all sorts of guns that either don't meet the PRC's criteria for a "safe" gun, or that have merely dropped off of the roster of approved guns. But you can bring them with you if you are foolish enough to move there. This does not include those evil "assault rifles" that are named by model or those that don't meet the PRC's definition of a legal, magazine fed rifle with a pistol grip.

In a nutshell, the laws make no sense, kind of like the politicians that wrote the laws and those that voted for the politicians.

I couldn't agree more. The object/end goal of the actions of those in the state government (Elected & APPOINTED) is to make it impossible for private citizens to have access to guns. And it would seem they are doing a fine job of meeting their goals. The "laws" make complete sense if your aim is to disarm the common man. Ethics & morals rarely enter into these machinations.

What good is Martial Law if the Citizenry is armed & adverse to the idea ?

By the way, importing all the unapproved guns you want will not only make you a felon(if you are caught), unable to buy or possess ANY gun in ANY state, but getting caught with ONE unapproved gun in a truckload of 1000 approved guns will get the ALL of them impounded & destroyed while you are on your way to prison.

Top Gun Supply just sent out an email flyer offering S&W Model 586-4's for $529.95. They are police trade-ins. It does not mention barrel length. I suspect and the picture seems to lead you to believe 4" barrels.

If the 586 is more valuable than the 686, then this sounds like a very good buy.

There are some 586 revolvers that have additional value as collector pieces. This 586-7 is one of 80 Performance Center 6 shot guns that were sent to a Florida distributor. These guns have been mentioned as overstock from an order by the French GIGN anti-terrorist unit. My letter from S&W does not mention the GIGN.
I replaced the factory rubber grips with combats because I shoot this gun and I like the feel of wood grips.

Gone within few hours. I almost bought one but then looked at the site and they were gone.
