Model 28-2

I have been lucky enough to get two of these beauties! The four-inch has what look like proof marks, 3 different ones, and a fourth one on the barrel bulge. The six-inch has no proof marks at all. Do proof marks make a difference?

Sorry, a difference in value. And by barrel bulge, I meant the part of the barrel where the taper from large to small begins.

Generally proof marks on American made revovlers indicate that it was made/sold for export. The marks do detract from the value unless some historical significance can be attributed to the purchase.

Thanks for the questions WC145 and BigJimP - I was wondering the same things.

How about some pictures eddieJoe333?

I've always had a soft spot for the S&W 28.

I remember when they were considered a real workhorse of a DA .357. Unfortunately they also remind me of a model 27 that I stupidly let get away.

Thanks everyone! I've never seen proof marks on the guns I've bought in the past.

Shoulder...yeah, that's better than bulge, but since I look down when I type, bulge just came to mind.

Pics to follow.

I have a 28-2 that also has proof marks, the proof marks are acceptance stamps indicating sale in foreign country. My proofs are from Munich West Germany in 78. I don't see how they would lessen value, though...I

Now a question..

Where to get a new rear sight for a 28?

Mine is missing 1/2 of the blade and it's either a new rear sight or new blade (and whatever is needed to get it installed.)

Thanks,

Deaf

That is the best looking N-Frame of any model, ever. I've wanted one for decades and finally decided I could never afford the 3.5 inch Model 27 :(

So recently I bought a 4-inch 28-2 that is a twin to the one in the picture. (OK, actually only very twin-ish, since the interesting proof marks are not on mine.) Or will be, once I replace the rubber grips with something wooden.

I'm looking at the Eagle Classic grips. Anybody have those on N-Frames?
