How come it is that the incredibly accurate competition handguns,,,
Are so very butt-ugly!

I'm a sucker for an accurate revolver. Doesn't matter who or what shot it, cloverleafs are like beer goggles to me. :D

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. That said, I happen to think the raceguns today built on 1911s and Glocks look funny. The most I think I can stomach on a gun is putting a red-dot on top. No fancy "big butt" grips or barrel weights or compensators or whatever...but whatever floats your boat.

Thanks for that chart kle,,,
May I ask where you got it?

I adapted it from the list given in the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, 3rd Edition and originally posted on the S&W Forum (I am "ValkyrieKL" on that forum).

IF it's not collector grade,

New grips and maybe you could have the trigger and hammer jeweled (polished in a certain way). These are tasteful touches of elegance. Something like:

To add more bling to it, nickel the cylinder and leave the frame blue.

Edited to add: The above is not my revolver.

More modern look? HOLD UP THERE! The model 10 is perfect like it is - don't mess up that classic look. If you take a nice condition older model 10 and bling it up it will be worth absolutely nothing in resale value. Those of us who actually buy old S&W's on a regular basis want everything in all original condition. If you plan on keeping it yourself, do whatever I guess.

Hah, I got a little ache in my side when I started reading this thread, too.

My two cents. If that photo is the actual gun you have.. It looks pristine.

Dont tamper with it. If it aint broke... Dont fix it.

The model 10 is meant to be utilitarian. It is a fun gun to shoot targets with, but it isn't a "target" gun.

Your best upgrade will either be a set of rubber grips or wood grips that fit your hand well. Better yet is a grip that's darkened with your sweat and hand oils from hours of practice.

Hi,
Some Uncles Mikes rubber grips do help the model 10 shoot a little better. But then again I like Walnut Diamond grips. Below is my newer M10 4 inch heavy barrel and my old school M&P pre-10 4 inch.

i want to give it a more modern look though i want it to look cooler than that old 70's cop thing
What's wrong with the 70's cop thing?

Stick some nice grips on it, and shoot the heck out of it.

Give your Mod.10 a vintage look...

I also own a Model 10-8 4" HB with Round butt and I love it. Add a Tyler T-Grip and everyone at the range will praise your revolver. This is how it will look like ... The T-Grip will also improve your accuracy...

By the way, the revolver in the link is not my Model 10. I am in the process of ordering the T-Grip and will post before and after photos soon..

This is the before photo...

I like the old movies with the old Colt & S&W revolvers. The old revolvers remind me of my childhood, when those big S&W grips stuck out of every cops holster I saw. Six shooters ARE "cool", and don't need any "bling", if you ask me. My Colt Det. .38, 1st edition, will never have any extra put on aside from a Tyler T-grip. I cut my teeth on an old WW2 era S&W skinny barrel model 10 and Colt Official Police, firing what seemed like MILLIONS of 148 grain wadcutters. The S&W was more accurate and had better sights, but I preffered the Colt's trigger. But I carried the old S&W 10 for many years as my woods loafing gun, and blasted quite a few woodchucks and vermin with it, until I replaced it with a heavy bbl model 10, so I could shoot +P's.

That Red Ryder picture is neat. Too bad Daisy Red Ryders are now made in China!!!!:D

I sold a Model 10 with 4" tapered barrel and have regretted my decision dearly. I bought it for $239.00 plus tax and sold it for about the same amount to buy a Ruger P95PR. What a mistake... Oh well, I hope my LGS brings more of these great revolvers in the future. :o

Good thing this thread isn't two years old!!!

Oh wait, wait a minute.....dang it, it is!

Futhermore, who in $%^& buys a classic revolver, but wants the modern look? Like a resto-mod (done on cars) for a S&W 10? I think the old classic look is much cooler. However, we all have our opinions.

This thread lurched to a halt two years ago, and it really didn't need to be kick started.

Yankee, welcome to TFL, but we generally frown on restarting old threads and posting in them as if they were last seen yesterday or last week.

Don't hesitate to start new threads, and you can always reference the old thread you found...

That said, I'm going to close this one.
