Mitchell's Mausers

I Am Gonna Toss In My Two Cents Worth Here.

Don Mitchell damned near put the COLT PATENT FIREARMS COMPANY out of business when he was their president. He almost did the same thing to HIGH STANDARD when he was their president.
About 15 or 18 years ago I bought one of those stainless steel U S of A made LUGER 9MM pistols. These were marketed by Mitchell's company at that time. About 75 rounds of 9MM PARABELLUM ammunition turned the insides of that nice looking LUGER into a pile of battered junk parts. The insides of that pistol was as soft as bubble gum !!!
I called mitchell's company and they asked that I return it as " obviously something is wrong here. "
I sent the LUGER pistol back to them and to the day I write these words I have yet to ever hear from them nor have they ever returned my pistol nor did they ever replace it.
I delight in peeing in their soupbowl every chance I get !!!!

Rmstn1580, you stated that you didn't know why a k98 costs so much more than an m44. Hold both of them, work the actions, shoot them, and then you'll realize the k98 is a bargain at $250, and $50 is too much for the mosin. :D Also, there's millions of mosins out there, don't expect them to appreciate any time soon. Now, if you wanna talk $250 finn m39 mosins, that's a whole different ball game, and they're worth every penny.

Im also i the business of buying a Mauser. I already have a 1938 Mosin Nagant, and a 1920's Arisaka. What kind of deals can one find at gunshows? Do prices tend to be higher, or lower? And do sellers generally include acessories? I really dont want to spend more than $300, and i dont want a Russian capture.

Wait, what? They have your gun and your money and it's been 15 years and you haven't taken action?

All other considerations aside, if you want a "new" looking 8mm Mauser in full military trim as a SHOOTER, not as a collector piece, and you're willing to pay the price, the Mitchell M-48s are good guns.

I'm in the minority, but I was quite happy to pay extra for them to clean both of my Yugomausers up so I wouldn't have to do it. :)

I wanted a shooter, didn't care about getting a battle veteran, and what I got were both essentially new rifles.

If this doesn't fit your needs, you don't want an as-new rifle in ready-to-go condition, or don't want to pay the price, then by all means go elsewhere. :)

Did it again.
Got sucked into an OLD thread without looking at the original date.
Disregard the above, the ship has long since sailed on this one. :)

If you dont have a License, you can go to a Gun Shop, and get a dealer to order a Rifle for you from SOG, The Dealer may charge you a $25 dollar transfer fee, but you will still come out better in the long run.
Samco Global Arms also has some nice Rifles, but are not as pleasant to do buisness with (in My Opinion) as SOG.

In case some of you don't know, Mitchell has reared his ugly head once more. You can read all about it in the "glowing" article in the latest American Rifleman, a "highly reliable" source. Seems he has convinced the Zastava firm into making more M48s, and there are some nifty photos of a 98K repro that he is now marketing.

There is even a photo of him presenting rifle No. 1 to Jim Supica.

Personally, after buying a couple really loser guns based on American Rifleman's "glowing reports" and now seeing this, AR has ZERO credibility with me anymore.

Im not a Mitchell Fan, but I have been wondering when replicas of World War Two Rifles would start being made.
I wish they could be made here, but in any event Im glad that they are being made.
I wish Remington, or Winchester would make a replica of the 1903 Springfield, but thats just dreaming.

Too many horror stories about Mitchell's Mausers to even consider a purchase from him.

I bought a brand new unissued M48 BO for around $200 ten years ago. Beautiful wood, sling, cleaning kit, brand new bayonet and sheath.

I think it was from either CDNN or J&G.
