Take a kid AND HIS/HER MOTHER shooting!
The "Soccer Mom" vote is almost wholly anti-gun. This sector of the electorate is highly sensitive to "security" issues. Well, the chances of an al-Queda operative running a cell out of the neighborhood is infinitesimal compared to home invasions, carjackings, rape or child abductions in that same neighborhood.
SO - introducing a child to shooting as step to gun-PROOFING the child (starting with the Eddy Eagle precepts, of course) is an approach most soccer moms can grasp as it involves protecting the child from ONE threat.
This opens an area of discussion - protection - from which the use of firearms as SAFETY TOOLS can be presented. Also, if the child gets into any of the many junior leagues for shooting sports, it becomes just another sport and mom can go and watch, just as she would Pop Warner football, Little League or soccer.
And once they start thinking about being able to protect their families and themselves BY THEMSELVES, the gun-grabbers won't look so attractive...
