'Minutemen' to Patrol Arizona Border

Hey dev_null, maybe you should go to the site and read what they are about before you make judgements about the kind of people they are, what they stand for, and what they plan to do.

Just from the national limelight they've gotten already, if enough people are for it (and who among the average person like you or me would be against protecting our borders from illegals?) then maybe, just maybe the gov't will wake up and realize they have to change things. I'm not holding my breath, but stranger things have happened in this world.

I, for one, plan on volunteering (once my work travel dates are set in stone) my time to help in April, and I am completely anti-KKK, and all that other extremist hate group type of thing. Now if I get down there and it turns out to be what your fears are, I will be the first to turn and head back home.

In reference to comments of the "Minutemen" program, I've heard every plan, even modest ones, to limit illegal entry into this country proclaimed to be "racist", "fascist", "draconian" and other derogatory terms by the media. And when a grass roots effort starts to grow, the media resorts to attempts to portray these efforts as "racist" or "vigilante justice" or in some other negative light.

A proposal.

1. Congress shall appropriate sufficient funds to purchase for the federal government a strip of land 2 miles wide along the southern international border. Except for designated zones, the federal government shall turn this land over to the U.S. Armed forces for use as a gunnery range, with appropriate signs posted every 1/4 mile in English and Spanish. This area will be designated as a "Federal Military Reservation" and subject to to the laws set forth in the UCMJ.

Illegal Immigration would stop in a few weeks if the states started sending their illegals on one way flights to Dulles or Reagan International airports. The feds have no problem telling the states that they have to give services to illegals when they are not affected. Once they are in their neighborhood, the attitude will change overnight.

Probably 75 percent of the service industries workers in DC and Northern Virginia are Central American immigrants, mainly from El Salvador. Illegal immigrants are all over DC and Northern Virginia.

did you just make that one up or do you actually have a source to back it up?

did you just make that one up or do you actually have a source to back it up?

That's my estimate based on having lived in the District. Also lived in Rosslyn, which pretty much is the District except clean. If there are any other posters who live in Northern Virginia, I'm sure they can back up what I'm saying.

I hope they actually do some good and can post some good numbers on how many they have stopped.. maybe.. just maybe if they keep it peaceful we can get some GOOD PR from the mainstream press. I would love a chance to help them out. :D

Hey if the minutemen can stick by what they have outlined and do nothing more than keep tabs on the illegals crossing until Border Patrol picks them up great. Saves the Tax Payers from having to pay the salary of new Border Patrol Officers. Hope it works out because something has to be done our society is being drug down by these people, not just in terms of money but safety as many of these people will do anything to stay in the U.S. and the crime statistics prove it.

All I can say is that the people volunteering for the MMP are true patriots, willing to do, not just legislate.

I would gladly participate. I had been thinking of something along these lines for sometime, and lo and behold here come the minute men. I however, cannot go due to various issues. If it were during the summer I would be signed up already.

Good luck to these fine patriots. Let us hope that they bring light to the disgust which has become out border.

so you made it up. no big deal, just want to be clear

No, I didn't make it up. Making it up would be speculating based on no information. I didn't assess it scientifically, that's all.

For further comparison, I grew up in California and now live in Texas. I saw as many if not more immigrants day to day in DC, and that's when I was living in much more expensive parts of town than I do now.

The point of this is to make it clear that your Federal Friends in DC are most certainly aware of what it's like having immigrants in their neighborhoods. D.C. has no shortage whatsoever.

The story says. . .

"The Border Patrol does this every day, and they are qualified and very well-trained to handle the situation," he said. "Ordinary Americans are not."

OOOOOOOOOOOOKAAAAAAAAAAY!

First of all, I can assure you that most devoted shooters are better with their firearms skills than the VAST MAJORITY of the Border Patrol Agents I saw training down at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in GA when I was there. I agree that if we just get a bunch of rednecks with no common sense down there, things are not going to go very well, but if the "Minutemen" are competent gunmen and level headed individuals, they'll be all right.

Secondly, the Border Patrol Agents I have met are not superhuman. They are "ordinary Americans" with some formal training.

Thirdly, if the Feds were actually enforcing the immigration laws worth a damn, none of this would be happening.

I voted for Bush, but he is DROPPING THE BALL on this one!

Minutemen

It was a big problem when I lived in N.M. in 1983-1984 but nobody cared back then either. I can't go down for the initiative BUT everyone can do what I did a couple of monthe ago. Upon recieving a fund raising letter from the RNC I put a "post it note" on it saying "no money till they attack the illegal entry problem with convivtion". I sent it back in their envelope which means it cost postage for them both ways.

If Only Bikers Ruled The World

Two things.

First, the US government CAN NOT use the National Guard or ANY OTHER military unit ANYWHERE within the US. Unless they REPEAL the Posse Commitatus Act - don't remember when it was passed originally.

SECONDLY:

I've had this one for OVER twenty five years. Got it while living in Tejas, where I was raised until I was twenty six. These guys look like they belong to either the "Bandidos" or the "Amigos" motorcycle club.

Shootin, the only thing is, the problem is illegal immigration... did you check those immigrants in DC for their green cards?

You can't say 75 percent of them were illegal immigrants.

Unless you're just against immigration in general.

ok, so what information are you basing this 75% claim on?

My own two eyes after having lived in the City for four years.

Wallew,

Don't know exactly how many were illegal, but pretty much everyone I talked to from El Salvador or Bolivia was in fact here illegally, and the large number of illegal immigrant workers is well known to laborers in the area (based on my conversations with the construction crew lunch timers).

For me personally, it doesn't make much difference if they came illegally or legally. All I care about is if they're good people and don't cause trouble.

> so you made it up. no big deal, just want to be clear

The actual figure is probably not accurate, but the general perception, just like along the SW border, is. Fact is, you'd be hard pressed to find anyone in the DC area who works in housekeeping, landscaping, or any of a dozen or more service and construction trades who isn't hispanic. Whether they're legal or illegal, from Mexico or Guatemala or El Salvador or Tierra del Fuego we don't know and it's immaterial anyway. The point was that simply airlifting illegals to the DC area to put them in the Congresscritters' "backyard," as one poster suggested, would NOT be an effective message. That's all he was saying, and as a DC area resident for many years, I have to agree. They would hardly be noticed.

i'll pick this nit one more time and be done with it.

if you say something like
75 percent of the service industries workers in DC and Northern Virginia are Central American immigrants
it may be taken as fact by someone ignorant like me. its not hard to post some statistics to back up your claim:
http://www.google.com/search?q=ille...eid=firefox&start=0&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

otherwise, if you say something like "i have noticed that quite a few service industry workers appear to be immigrants", that is less likely to be confused with factual information.

Fact is, you'd be hard pressed to find anyone in the DC area who works in housekeeping, landscaping, or any of a dozen or more service and construction trades who isn't hispanic
denver is the same way. some billboards and stuff around here aren't even in english. alot of the violent crime that is reported (notice i didn't say occurs) is hispanics
