Mini 30 or AK-47?

For guys who really like the AK's ergonomics, have any of you installed a Tech Sight?

I prefer the SKS' ergonomics over a typical AK clone, and this new Tech Sight on my Norinco is so much better. The old leaf sight can be removed.

Not only is the sight distance much better: the front sight's circular hood forms a perfectly aligned circle within this new, rear aperture, with the post's tip in the center of both.

Some Techs are also designed for the Ruger 10/22.

i like the AK sights, they're similar to sights found on many american hunting rifles that have been around since forever. all i do is just apply some bright paint to the front,no trijicons or anything else fancy. i can work with peeps, but some better than others. i really like the rotary drum sights on HKs/PTRs.

ergonomics? well,i adapt to whatever's in front of me and practise.

I've not shot a mini 30, and have no experience of any kind with one so I can't comment on that. I do own a Draco C and my best friend owns a Romanian/Century rifle. Both are very good guns. Very fun at the range. My pistol is decent with accuracy at 30-50 yards. It's shot hundreds of rounds, mostly just fun at the range, no serious target shooting. My buddy's rifle has been only shot a couple hundred times. I've watched him hit the center of a milk jug consistly at 100 yards with no problems with the original sights. My gun has never jammed, misfired, or have any problems. My friend's gun has had no problems that I'm aware of and he used it a few days for deer hunting this. For range shooting, both guns have mostly shot the $5 walmart stuff. In my experience, the cheap AK guns are of good quality. There are 2 different ways of mounting scopes and there's a few different sights available. Many different types of magazines, anything from 5 round to 100 round. But I've heard bad things about the higher capacity magazine, so I suggest using drums if you want to hold a lot. I don't know about your state, but the max a rifle can hold when hunting is 5. If you're wanting an AK style rifle, but want even extra durability and more range fun, look into the RPK. For $700, shipping, and picking it up from a dealer it seems like a pretty good deal.

one each

I've got both. I hunt the Mini 30 often, the AK only a few times to say I've done it.

The AK will not scope easy, no rail on mine. No optic, the short radius blade and leaf sights leave a lot to be diesired for accurate fire. The AK triigger is a bang switch, no more, gritty and sloppy. My AK will only do 4-6 MOA. The short stocked, pistol gripped AK does not mount and point well for me, and the safety seems very awkward and clumsy when in a hurry.

My Mini came w/ rings and mounting the 1-4x Leu was no big deal. Its peep sight set up is much more accurate than theAK irons, if you choose to run it w/o optic. The Mini has a very useable trigger, right out of the box. My mini will shoot 3 MOA of better with some ammo. Its conventional style stock mounts and points much better for me, and I really like the Garand style safety for speed.

If you must have a hi cap mag, Ruger now markets a factory 20 rd box and the one I have runs great. But I never use it except for blasting, the 5 rd flush mount is fine for hunting.

Hey, I like the AK, but is not in the same class as a Mini as a hunter or GP rifle.

oh yeah

I am not a fan of the SKS except for a low cost beater. Too long and heavy for what it is, not a rifle, not a carbine.

No experience with a Mini. I picked up a Polish Underfolder AK (well built, I picked it out of a group) at the fun shop 6 weeks ago, and have cycled 850rds thru it, no failures, all on target 50-100 yards (more or less ;-) with iron sights, using several types of ammo. Cheap, fun to shoot, plenty of aftermarket. Go AK

Sounds like you're describing a Yugoslavian one. I prefer the Norincos. They're light, accurate and have a chrome bore. The Paratrooper/Cowboy Companion one is best, I think. Seems like it'd be a perfect hog gun. You can buy one of 'em and 1000 rounds of hollowpoints for $600.

I forgot: A $30 Williams peep sight does wonders!
