Well here it is; what is your stance/opinion on the patriot/militia movement(s)?

"The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. To be your own man is a hard business. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself."
-Rudyard Kipling

They're too visible, too public. You can have the same preparedness/training/mindset without the former E-1s parading around in cammies for publicity and calling themselves generals and commanders. I'd bet that a lot of neighbors, sitting around talking about "what if" scenarios, and maybe going to the range a bit, are accomplishing what the militias claim to, only they're the only ones that know. Kind of like CCW, you don't want anyone to know, and hopefully it'll never be needed.

You're in a militia now.

That aside, the reality of the militia movement is political frustration. The working class in this country woke up and found themselves politically impotent and their values corrupted, undermined and unrepresented. We (yes, dad drove a truck for a living) were foolish enough to think that working hard and paying taxes would mean something. Wrong, we got took, wages decreased, taxes increased. The Entitled Class grew and the "progressives" made a mockery of the work ethic. The real roots of the modern militia movement can be found in the farm foreclosures of the 80s. Lots of people who once considered themselves the backbone of America became irrelevant, personally and politically, in the course of 10 years or so.

Now they're running around the woods with cheap Chinese semi-autos waiting for a Revolution that isn't going to come. What do I think of them? Pretty pathetic all the way around, but I absolutely understand the frustration.

We can't afford to let "them" demonize militia members or any other gun owners. Every time ANY gun owners are denigrated, WE suffer by association.

Do you think that we as individuals are somehow nobler than those ruffians?
Probably all we know about them is what we read in the newspapers and what we see on TV.

And do you think the militia could ever get any "good press"?

Yes, a militia could get good press.

IF:

This was the late 1700's.

Oops, my cynicism is showing.

The folks who keep it on the DL (the down and low) will be the militias that will win the next revolution.

Yes, it will come. In my lifetime. The Rock is 22.

The really sad thing is that those 'cheap' Chinese semi-auto's are getting pretty expensive ...

Rock; I am 63 and not in good health (by some standards) and I would not be amazed to see it happen in MY lifetime.

Years ago I decided that this country could survive four years of James Earl Carter, but I'm not sure abour eight from William Jefferson Blythe Clinton.

Full names used because I am a conspiracy theorist.

The real militias of today, if they ever needed to be formed, would be similar to the ones of old. They would be based upon a whole spectrum of sporting, social, relighious and political instutions that by circumstance needed to look out for their own defense. I don't doubt that Americans could quickly churn out huge numbers of heavily armed groups if a substantial number of them were suddenly convinced of its necessity by some ominous turn of events.
This is vast country holding a very diverse people together on just a very few agreed upon values like the Bill of Rights. I think it is terribly dangerous to do as the present administration does when it turns on these values. I don't see this as a very stable or viable state without these.

As mentioned above, the 'milita' movement has been heavily infiltrated by the Feebs.

What author said: 'Too late to work within the system and too soon to shoot the bastards!' ?

Jeff, I think that was Claire Wolf. That Vin guy has a good chapter in his book concerning the so-called "militia movement". The vast majority of these folks pose no threat to anyone before they become the fasionable prey of our "protectors" who heroically kill all of the monsters beneath our beds, even if they make them up. They peacefully and lawfully train for possibilty only. Intent, specifically criminal intent is the only thing LE should be concerned with.

What will it come to in fruition? No formal retail tactical instuction for free citizens. Training with your buddy is a conspiracy to use weaponry. Simply talking about it is denied on the internet....The militia is a practical, genuine, and undeniably real part of the potential lifespan of freedom. Just because some wish to dress it in the terms of "extremism" does not relegate us all to the lowest form of expression any more than freedom of speech equals flag burning.

Most folks that talk down about the militia are just ignorant of the laws and mission of the militia.
Many are led astray by the news media and really have no clue what a legal, responsible militia is all about.
I am a very involved in my state militia and am quite proud of it. We don't care if every third one is fed. We invite them to some of our meetings anyway. We don't do anything illegal. We don't advocate anything illegal. We don't tolerate those who do. We welcome all races and religions. We have an established TO&E that closely follows regular Army. We have AT LEAST monthly training exercises and weekly meetings. Our local paper publishes press releases for us and we had a reasonably good article in the London Telegraph about us about 4-5 months ago. We have had joint fundraisers with the Sheriff's Dept in the form of turkey shoots and other competitions.
We have public meetings occasionally where we hold classes in first aid, gun safety and marksmanship, food storage, land navigation, the Constitution, state gun laws, etc., etc.

Hiding in the closet will get us nowhere.

Let me preface my remarks with this statement: An armed citizenry is the final arbiter of freedom. If this country were to be invaded, "we" would play a large part in its defense. If a Hitler came to power, it would be "our" responsibility to do the right thing.

On one hand, I consider everyone who is "well-regulated" in firearms operation and use to be a part of the unorganized militia.

Shooting matches that utilize a "course of fire" are even better. Thus, in my own mind, IDPA, IPSC, and other similar competition is a great way to get some good training. By shooting IDPA (pistol + carbine) once or twice a month, I feel that I have some small level of training.

This is a good to a degree, but it is not complete. I think the chances that an armed, organized citizenry would be required to secure freedom are very small. However, the chance does exist.

What is missing is group tactics. If a "Red Dawn" scenario ever happens, I bet a lot of us will be cramming information from our army-surplus manuals and trying to find others.

When men turn 20 in Switzerland, each is required to attend 108 consecutive days of military training, and from then on, must devote three weeks a year to training, until they hit 32 (when the schedule is reduced).

What if we had an *optional* program like that here? Being the type of person who likes to always be prepared, I would jump at the chance for some basic training, while not having to give up years of my life.

History will be the final judge of this militia movement and its twentieth century beginnings. Whether militias are to be judged as good or bad will depend on whether the sheeple work up the courage to revolt against the "two-party" system and demand democracy (instead of the plutocracy we have now).

Militias, as now commonly referred to, are what may allow the sheeple this option of waking up and stopping the madness. If this option isn't exercised soon, it may no longer be available. Militias and the "gun culture" are being demonized and harassed by those in power so that we may have NO REAL CHOICE in the future, being defenseless.

The entity most threatened by "A well regulated militia" may be the new world order. Thanks for starting this thread.

I consider myself a militia of one. I remember the lessons of unconventional warfare I learned in Nam, and I keep myself in shape. I have my weapons, and sources for others. I would hope and pray that the time will never come when I must "put down my plow and pick up my musket", but I feel it is my duty as a citizen to be prepared. This forum provides me with the knowledge that there are many others like-minded out there, prepared, should the need arise, to follow the footsteps of our forebears. I don't consider myself a general, only a foot soldier who still believes in the Constitution I swore to protect and defend. Should the time come, I'll seek others with the same heart, and do what is necessary to protect the basic principles upon which this country was formed. Until then, I'll remain in preparation, and use the net, my voice, and my vote, in hopes that that will be enough.

When guns are outlawed, I will be an outlaw.

Very well put Sword. I am also of the generation that went to war in 'Nam, and I have killed (once that I know of), so I could possibly do it again if the need was there. While I hope to God it never is, I would be ready to stand my ground.

I am not 'in-shape' anymore. I am older, fatter, diabetic with glasses, and not really in steller condition. Brain still works tho.

Nope! I didn't see it in here anywhere. I thought I would. Maybe this will help...

While the focus of the above posts are on "militias"...those semi-formal, relatively organized, fairly well regulated, and almost exclusively infiltrated paramilitary groups...no one mentioned what has evolved in this country into something more potent, more powerful, and even better "organized" than the traditional militias. No one mentioned how liberty's teeth have been sharpened over the past several years into a literal civilian army. I'm talking about those Americans that are already prepared to defend liberty, take back our republic from establishment rule, and re-constitute our great republic. I'm talking about those Americans that have no affiliation with infiltrated groups and organizations, stay clear of federal intrusion, and avoid or ignore the illegal gun laws. I'm talking about those Americans that effectively blend into your neighborhoods, maintain a low profile, and have quietly trained both mentally and physically for the inevitable.

You know who you are. Keep your powder dry!

I echo Paul Revere.

I think that those people (read: many of us) are the last hope of liberty and freedom left in the entire world. That scares me.

We are all that is left and we are freedom's last and best hope.

May God help us and guide us all.

Withholding any judgements:

The militia have an image problem. For every instance where the militia is seen helping out in the recovery of a lost child, there are dozens of instances of the militia seen walking around in full field gear where obviously there is no need. This concern some people, and creates negative stereotypes for many more. Yes, the media is partly responsible, but so to are the militias for refusing to do the least bit of public relations work.
