Michigan CPL app References

The Michigan CPL application requires you to list 2 references. Do they need to be in your county? Has anyone been a reference and know what they ask?

reference

Don't know about "new" but I did wait in a 3 hour line for pics and prints 2 years ago; Oakland County.

Macomb County seems to have a handle on the CPL process. But then again, it doesn't seem like they deny anyone. I recieved mine on Friday, and someone with a past record of "attempted suicide" received his CPL. Also, a person with DWI on record within the statute of the regs. Still received his CPL. I was baffled to say the least. Just so happens that a couple of people I attented my CPL course with were in there too. We had quite the lengthy discussion back at the gun shop afterwords.

I don't know how new the "reference" area, which is 2 persons. Has been a prerequisite for the form. But it is there, and it must be filled out.

I'm a reference for my neighbor. They never called me. Wayne county, the idiotic county that even had those stupid and illegal "good character letters" for quite a time.

I used two people from my county as my references and they were never contacted either. I would be very surprised if they contacted most references.

Again, is this new? When did the reference mandate start? I see nothing on the MSP site.

I don't know how new the references are seeing as how I have only had my CPL for a month, so I am new to this, but I can tell you it does require 2 references on the application. They never called my references.

They called mine and I was called for a friend who put me as a reference.

Do you need references when you renew?

I just found the form online. It does ask for two references. I got my CPL in September of 2005 (applied Aug 05) and it didn't have references on the form. That's retarded.

Mine asked for references.......Never were contacted. The guy that ran my CPL class said he was a reference for many of his students and had never been contacted.

I used a couple guys that I hunt with, one in which has a cpl. Just put some honest peoples names down and let em know you did in case they contact them.

2 "references". Huh. You guys have it easy.

California:
▪ Three character reference letters are required to assist in substantiating good moral character.
▪ These letters must be written by local residents and contain a local address and phone number. Letters will not be accepted from any relatives. The writer must also acknowledge he or she understands the letter is for an application for a concealed weapons license.

We had to have 2 of those idiotic letters in Wayne county for both my original and renewal. This will be my first renewal without. It wasn't legal, as it wasn't part of the law, but Wayne county thinks they can get away with just about anything. MCRGO was taking them to court over it, but I don't remember anything really happening. Elite bureaucrats in this area seem to get a free pass, that is, up until Kwame Kilpatrick.;)

Every CPL App.(going back to the 60s) I've ever filled out has required two references. The old system, prior to shall issue, would not even let you use family members as a Ref. plus you had to go before board & give your life story. And believe me getting a general unresticted license in the 60s thru 2000 was a challenge You got it made today.

Got my CPL from Keweenaw County in 2005. Never had references.

Up here it's always been pretty much shall issue from the beginning. The three counties together denied about 10 applications from 1970 onward.

Stevie-ray - Wayne County was taken to court by the MCRGO, and lost big-time. When Ficano was sheriff, he took it upon himself to require the letters; and Michigan had already passed a law stating that local requirements could not exceed statewide. A/G Mike Cox also is alleged to have told Ficano, and then Warren Evans, to speed things up.

He also set the standard for allowing the gun board to meet less often just to delay the process. Evans wasn't much better. People have tried to get permanent injunctions to force faster responses and processing, but judges just won't go against their fellow hacks.

It took exactly three months for mine to be approved. Two friends of mine got theirs in Oakland County in just under four weeks.
