I heard an interview with this vet on the radio here in Boston yesterday. He said the $$$ amount was his lawyers idea - not his - and that he plans on donating whatever he might win to disable vets.
Leif, I'd chalk it up to maybe a poor choice of wording. Mostly because the wording can be construed as it has by you -- in its very literal sense.
But, sitting across the table from steelheart sharing a beer and a burger, I'd more than likely be nodding in agreement. I have a poor opinion of Moore. I wish he’d leave the country. But I understand his right to be here, and to say the things I despise.

The problem I have with the latter quotation, though, is the categorization of Moore with traitors, terrorists, and parasites.
Holding Moore in the same regard as terrorists or what have you, just means he finds them equally despicable. I think most of us can agree that Moore's actions versus terrorists’ actions are fundamentally different. But, it's possible to view those actions as equally disgusting.
I won't get into the discussion on the legality of "parasite" &/or "unworthy" as my interpretation is that those, and other words used, were posed as one man's opinion, not as if they should be amended into the Constitution.
Trip20, point taken, I do tend to take things a bit literally at times; I personally have a real problem with overblown rhetoric and histrionic invective, right or left, and wish to see it countered because it tends to be, IMHO, unproductive.
I can't quite agree with you about the actions possibly being equally reprehensible, even though I don't like the actions of either Moore or the terrorists. There's a huge gulf between making a bad documentary and crashing jets into buildings, and my personal level of disdain for these people reflects that disproportionate level of action. Moore gets a wagging finger (you can decide which one ) ... al-Qaeda gets a bullet (well, the military's bullets anyway).
So, when are we all sitting down to beer and burgers?
You don't have to agree with me. I only said it's possible, not that is was the way I necessarily feel..
Ya know, you brought up planes into buildings versus bad documentaries. That's a good point if only taken in it's most simplistic terms. But lets look just a bit futher.
There are people who believe Moore's rhetoric is directly responsible for getting people killed by way of provolking additional violence towards American civilians and soldiers, both here and abroad. Now, to someone who believes this, it's not just a little old bad documentary, or smug prime time news interview.
That's why I said it's possible to view both actions as equally disgusting.
As far as the brew and burgers; you guys have a long drive to Wisconsin... better get started, I'll save us a table.
