Mexican Army rides into Texas

Yeah, the Castro story is true. We haven't turned down his aid yet (taht I know of), just not given a response.

Katrina has brought out some of the worst in people on gun forums.

People who are all psyched up on what load or gun to use on looters. Oh, if only I could be there to shoot someone!!

People clearly blaming the victims even when clear that they are victims of circumstance. Maybe they were stupid not to evacuate immediately or have MREs stored - maybe they were poor.

Clearly we have seen race brought up as major forums have had to have cautionary announcements about such posts.

Pseudo-political scientists who debate that arcane arguments about federalism and states rights explain why it was OK if rescue efforts went to chaos.

Dudes who want to rationalize the inaction of their favorite politico as he still better than Kerry who would have taken their gun. There is no logic in the argument that we excuse poor behavior as some other idiot would be worse on a dimension not relevant to the issue.

If Mexico or whomever, wants to help - good for them. What have all the whiners done?

We gave clothes, contributed to the Salvation Army and I bought a SWAT subscription. My school will take in college kids who have had their education disrupted and I opened my classes to take in them (maybe about 20 kids).

That's better than posting crap about how we don't like Mexico for sending help or blaming the vast majority of victims because of some bad behavior on the part of subset of those in New Orleans.

Go ahead and feel all soft and fuzzy about Mexico - that's your choice. If 40 trucks makes you a fan of Mexico - yippee.

No one is saying Mexico's offer isn't nice. No one is saying we shouldn't be grateful for Mexico’s assistance.

Mexico encourages its citizens to come here illegally. Sending 40 trucks for relief assistance is great. But it's not going to make me forget the rest of what they send here.

Apparently for some of you, it does make you forget.

For those people I have a proposition: Let me steal your guns. Hey, don't worry in your time of need, I'll offer to take you shooting once in awhile. That should make you forgive me for stealing them.

Accept a lie, as long as it's told with a smile.

Hey, WildAlaska... my opinion has nothing to do with firearms... so your precious gun owner’s guild is still unblemished.

El Ejercito Mexicano has set up field water purification facilities at Kelly USA (formerly Kelly AFB) in San Antonio and has field kitchens providing meals. I've never had any concerns about the potability of San Antonio's public water system but I'd guess the meals help.

The rumor is that the soldados have pawned their rifles, applied for food stamps and are currently milling around on street corners hoping to be hired for landscaping jobs. Just a rumor.

In my most humble opinion, insulting people who are working to help America after the New Orleans disaster is pretty darn low on the respectability scale.

I haven't forgotten the illegal immigration problem, but it is a separate issue in a separate compartment.

Here we have a national emergency and Mexico has sent aid to us. Is it a nominal amount of aid? Maybe. Is it largely symbolic? Maybe. Even if so, symbolism is extremely important.

It is, whatever else might be said, real aid during a time of crisis. They have come to us, bringing help and compassion during our time of need.

How can anyone denigrate that, and why would they?

At a guess I would bet that the people who are denigrating Mexico right now for bringing us aid, are the loudest voices saying that the world doesn't appreciate us when we take aid to them. Look into your own heart and ask if that describes you.

What is it that we want from the world when we help them out? One thing, and one thing only - their appreciation of our efforts. Why then do we not show the appreciation that we often feel is so lacking?

40 trucks may not be much but at least they made the effort.

True, however in regards to Mexico I do not trust there government.
I believe this is more of an effort in what I would call window
dressing for the illegals living in this country. Always in times of crisis
out government makes enough mistakes no need to compound the problem
by allowing uniformed troops and trucks from other countries on our highways.
It would have been a good gesture for Mexico to provide support in other ways but not this.
