Memorial Day weekend guns

Anybody else unlimbering your 1911s, P38s and such to shoot or just to fondle while you watch war movies?

I'll be shooting my Series 70 Gold Cup tomorrow in a Bullseye 900 match and a CMP EIC match tomorrow, does that count?

Shoot a 1911 about every week, the P38 is not shot much but the P1 will be every month or so. And my most often carried SD pistol is a Springfield 1911 Ultra-Compact 45 acp. I will however go to the safe and remember my grandfathers service to this country while fondling the service pistols and the guns they brought back that I was lucky enough to have be given.

Pete, I hereby demand photos :D

I want to shoot my M1 rifle this weekend. We'll see. I had hoped to have my 1903A4 project done before, but there's been complications. My P.38 has something wrong with it, DA is very rough now. A spring might need to be replaced. It's fun to shoot but I can't hit a damn thing with it. I save my 1918 Colt Model of 1911 shooting session for 4 July. I figure 7 rounds a year is low-risk enough

Here's a Memorial Day Photo.

Sadly I may not have time to shoot this weekend, but maybe I will Memorial Day in the AM.

Hopefully I am able to fire some of these veterans:

The Remington is a Civil War veteran. The colt below it was made in 1853, so it could have served. Who knows now.

WWI Colt New service 455 - made by Colt for the British army around 1914

WWII Axis pistols (the luger was issued to the Dutch East Indies Army, which fell to the Imperial Japanese in 1942. This luger was then captured from a Japanese soldier).

Sorry I don't have photos of the others

While I never handle guns while distracted by TV, I'll be unlimbering a vintage Remington-Rand 1911A1 for the weekends celebrations and remembrance's. The very best to all of you who have served, and a toast to those who's sacrifice made our freedom's possible...a continuing price paid in blood and treasure. Rest in peace, brothers...Sgt John Spivy, Lt John Duffy, Lt Charlie Supernaut, and Lt John Baily.

No need to appraise the gun. Since I bought it recently the value of the gun was established at $1700 if I remember right.

Started today with a 10 gauge then my brothers K31. Finished the afternoon with 150 rounds of Federal Valu Pak 22 cal. Only quit because lightning and thunder and high winds were making my nephew nervous. Didn't bother me a bit.

In retrospect I maybe should have done the 22 and the K31 first before shooting the 10 instead of the other way around.

Go to the range on Memorial Day? No thanks. Its a day of reflection for me spent with my wife, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. Either I call or 2 of my best friends from back in the day call me. We were acrossed the pond togather.
Our range has a milsup shoot for the want-a-be's. Most of the vets attend the parade and the ceremony at the veterans cemetary.

The way I look at it, shooting any of my guns is a fitting tribute since I'm enjoying one of the many freedoms that veterans paid so dearly to protect.

Shoot'n

Webleymkv: That pretty much says it all!!

I'm gonna break out the ol 1928A1 Tommy gun, 1911 and luger and crank off a few rounds in their and my dads honor!!

Gob Bless and Protect them all

Thanks....

Wasn't plaining on it but now I'm thinking I'll take 200 rounds of .45 acp and my Colt 1911 to the range and make some noise!!!! Using my Dan Wesson .357 mag I'll create more noise and a lot of smoke. Maybe another 200 rounds just for kicks.

I'll be thinking about eight of my uncles that served in WWII, one still walking. And my grandfather who drove the Higgins boats on to the beach in the pacific.

Of coarse everyone serving is always on my mind......always.

Godspeed........
