mel gibsons stance on guns?

HEY,
since mel gibson basically has made his career with a gun closeby in every movie he has made, and he moved from australia, what are his thoughts on gun control? is he pro gun or anti gun? has anyone heard?

handsome frank, welcome to TFL.

There was a lot of debate here about this issue. Gibson has made himself pretty clear recently as being not only a supporter of the RKBA, but also have the juevos to stand tall when challenged. Talk about refreshing, eh? He makes most of the rest of Hollywood look like absolute pansies.

In a wire story last weekend, in our Sunday paper, he also was quoted about militias. When asked, he said something positive about them, and commented that America does not have the best leadership right now. (I'd post the quote, but the paper is gone.)

I liked Braveheart, and I'm looking forward the The Patriot later today.

If nothing else no celebrity of his caliber (well, earnings) would live in Australia.

Any hollywood type can get all touchy-feely about this and that; but if you were to make a few million bux a movie in Australia the tax bill is immense.

Battler.

"For his part, Gibson, again, isn’t backing down, stating that he and his children have gone to shooting ranges together, and that he sees nothing wrong with their using weapons for self-defense."

Well OK then!

This is amazing! I've been away too long...and without TFL, you never hear about this stuff. Next time he gets drunk or something, THAT will make the ordinary news.

Yes Who is Libby? Also a Mel note:
When will the English learn to burn down Mel's house. Braveheart had some house burning Mel gets mad woops some butt. The previews to Patriot seems to have some of the same.

I'm not so quick to hold Gibson up as a RKBA advocate. Sure, he thinks it's okay for him and his family to have to have weapons for self-defense, but as we've seen all to often, this doesn't necessarily translate to a belief in a universal and fundamental right.

The political and entertainment glitterati frequently see no dichotomy in owning or using firearms while distaining those same freedoms being exercised by those they view as their proletarian vassals.

I'll be withholding vehement support until I hear a clear statement supporting views akin to my own. The Lethal Weapon idoicy still burns bright in my mind.

hey guys, thanks for all the responses, i saw the patriot yesterday and it kicked ass!!! im definetly very glad that mel gibson(now for sure my all time favorite actor) is pro gun. btw, dont worry about who libby is, i was drunk and tired when i wrote that....she is just a girl i think is hot and i go to school with her.....

Actually, Frank, she posts here. And she doesn't seem to be very happy with you for some reason....... ;)

Wouldn't that be interesting?

I'm glad to hear Mel has come to his senses. I do like his acting and it is refreshing to hear of someone with fame and influence spreading the word. BUT, have we fortgotten Mr. Gibson's role in the movie Lethal Weapon 4? That movie was blatantly anti-gun/anti-NRA. So what's the deal? He's pro-gun but he's got nothing against bashing gun owners and the NRA? How is this supposed to work?

haha, that would be one hell of an akward moment seeing her post here, but thats ok, im friends with her, and she would just gimme a weird look and that would be that.....im one of those guys who cant get a chick for the life of me, so i guess im marrying the army when im 18.....anyone been in the army? cuz i wanna go there to study to be a gunsmith.

handsome frank,
I hate to be the one to break the news to you but Girls and the Army jist ain't the same.

Believe me young man, I know, I spent 22 years in the Army and most of my off duty time was spent chasing girls.....But hell...I didn't have to be in the Army to chase girls. ;)

"Lead, follow or get the HELL out of the way."

haha, i know girls and the army are far from the same, but there are pretty much only 2 things i love in life..girls, and guns..and when i cant have one i try to get with the other as much as possible.....im sure a girl will come along, but i was wondering how the army stacks up. ive seen full metal jacket, i was wondering if it is that rough, or is the army less demanding?

handsome frank, in your honor, and because you've reminded me of a very funny story, I post the following ... in tribute to every man who has wholesomely lusted in vain over a beautiful woman:

How Hot Is It In Hell - A True Story (author unknown)

A thermodynamics professor had written a take-home exam for his graduate students. It had one question: “Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)? Support your answer with a proof.”

Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle’s Law (gas cools off when it expands and heats up when it is compressed) or some variant. One student, however, wrote the following:

First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So, we need to know the rate that souls are moving into Hell and the rate they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving. As for how many souls are entering Hell, let’s look at the different religions that exist in the world today. Some of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell.

With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle’s Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand as souls are added. This gives two possibilities:

1) If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose.

2) Of course, if Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over.

So which is it? If we accept the postulate given to me by Ms. Therese Banyan during my freshman year that “it will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you” and take into account the fact that I still have not succeeded in having sexual relations with her, then 2 cannot be true, so Hell is exothermic.

The student got the only A.
