Maybe a new .45?

So I'm headed to the gun show later today, and I'm hoping to wind up with a little extra cheese in my pocket.... #fingerscrossed

Here's my situation:
  • I have CC covered, with pistols in sizes Pocket, Small, Medium, and Large.
  • My Large CC pistol is my beloved 1911. It's also
    • My only .45 pistol; and
    • My only CC pistol with a thumb safety, though it's exceedingly rare that I carry it.
  • I have a whole bunch of .45 right now, in a variety of flavors. Some is FMJ, some is lead ball, some large pistol primers, some small pistol primers....
  • I have a buddy who's trying to sell me his Gen4 G21 at a really good price. I know I like G21s, though they're just a teensy bit large in my hands. My only concern is the lead bullets I have and I don't want to have to buy an extra barrel.

As I said above, I have CC covered, so this would be a range and possible HD gun. It needs to be in .45 ACP and be ready to eat anything I feed it, including lead. If I come away with an extra, say $500 at the gun show, what should I look at? I'm thinking M&P, or maybe a CZ? I like the idea of a Sig, but they're out of my price range.

A Glock 41 would be awesome but you have the problem with the barrel, again.

I've been happy with a gun I got on trade....an FN FNP 45. Great trigger in SA/DA. It has a 14 round capacity magazine.

An awesome option in 45 ACP is the S&W 625 revolver but I know it's pricey, too. The Governor also does 45 ACP and 45 Colt.

XD45 or s&w 25-2

The XD45 might give you added firepower over the 1911 you want at home. It comes in a thumb safety version.

The Smith would have a better trigger and likely be more accurate.

I love my Colt New Agent 45 ACP 3" brl. came with Crimson Trace Lases grips , what a fun gun to shoot .

Thank you, one and all for the suggestions. Alas, there was nothing at the gun show that was both interesting and reasonably priced. I came home empty-handed.

I just bought an FNX-45 for under $500 NIB. Great pistol with similar functionality to my 1911s, If dead on reliability is critical, look for a 3rd gen S&W. My old 457 never flinches with any ammo.

I didn't buy anything at the gun show this weekend, but I'm thinking that for my next .45, a 3rd gen S&W might be just what I'm looking for. Maybe. As always, I'll need to overthink it.

Well enjoy over thinking until something catches your attention. I usually have the money and no gun to buy or I have no money when a gun I want is available. The new gen 5 Glocks are coming out so that may be an option, I know you said you were thinkin about a S&W 45, I also have an FNX-45 and use it for home defense, the grip may be a little big for ya. A nice used Sig 220 may be another good option if you want to stay with a single stack like the Smith. I have not had any luck with guns shows for years now and have all but stopped going. Good luck with the hunt.

Sold several 45s over the past year, including HK, SIG and DW. Wanted one to carry. Bought the Shield, before rebate. Super pistol! Then bought a STI EDGE. Finally found a CZ 97b. Wanted the CZ 97bd, but not available; took months to get a new CZ.

Previously, thought the HK Mark 23 was best all around. Suspect the CZ 97b will be better, if it turns out as good as my buddy's. Hard to beat the Shield 45 for carry.

I would say a used p220 would be good. You can find them online for a good price. Mine was made in W. Germany. Runs great. Have yet to have an issue with it.

Smith and Wesson 645 or 4506. They will feed an empty case most of the time. Super tough guns and kind of unappreciated. Might be a little hard to find, but they are out there. CZ 97 is great too, but might be a little more $$'s.

I have the Gen4 Glock 21 and the gun is a great range gun with the large grip and I even put the large beavertail backstrap on mine since the wider slide bites the web of my shooting hand without it.

Another one to consider is the HK45, or the HK45 Compact if you get the chance to shoot one you might like it as much as I like mine!

A third option is the Walther PPQ in .45ACP, another one you should try out to appreciate it!

My favorite centerfire semiautomatic pistols are my CZ's (and Tanfoglio clones thereof). The CZ97 is a very nice pistol. Mine is my favorite 45acp of the several I own.
