Maximum Powder Charges for handgun

I have a very simple philosophical test for whether or not to pull apart a loaded round. Do I have ANY reservations about using the round to defend my family. Simple right? If I have any doubt about a round - I pull it apart.

I don't & won't use a thrower - I digital scale each pistol load. I've got a little Lyman digital on my bench. Quality over quantity as a very firm rule.

2 reasons for this -
I use higher density powder (H - Titegroup) so a double charge could result in really bad results.
And I fire a .40 glock and the round has been known to produce some pretty nasty results if you don't pay attention.

If it were me I'd pitch the powder thrower and pull apart the round.

I found Unique to be a pretty forgiving powder, if the loads are within published data, I'd shoot them... preferably in something all steel, the larger the better if there is some question. Having said that, as far as the OP's loads go... if you were trying to load 8.5grns and you wound up at 9.3... then there is something wrong with your loading process and I would pull them. Unique can be a tricky powder in an auto measure; I've adapted my reloading process to accommodate it and it's still my favorite powder for pistols, but it took some trial and error.

Components are expensive, but safety is paramount.

All rounds in guns that might be SD are store bought SD rounds.
