Just purchased a Mauser on Gunbroker and it has been 8 days since the guy received payment. I spoke with him over the phone twice and he said he was away from the paperwork to give me the tracking number. I'm going to my post office tommorrow with my receipt to track the Money Order I sent him. I hope its no scam! He said he received payment and mailed the rifle off. I didn't think to ask how he shipped the rifle, but 8 days ago. I have received rifles from further away than that in 5 days or less. I called the guy back and he won't answer the phone or return my messages!!!:mad: What should I do? This is bad business to not take the courtesy of calling me back with a tracking number on the rifle that takes about 30 seconds.

Not having information on shipment and not returning telephone calls is enough to make anyone apprehensive of fraud. Review his seller ratings and see what can be seen, and do send a query through Gunbroker to the seller. Be polite for another week, though, things take time to pack, queue for shipping, ship, and deliver.

Once received, though, feedback on Gunbroker should be appropriate to an unbusinesslike seller.

It can take extra time to cash the payment check depending on the source. Even the postal clerks don't always have enough cash in their drawer to cover postal money orders, and out of state checks can also take extra time to clear.
It can take extra time to transport depending on the distance involved, shipping method and the particular carrier.
The delivery service can also be the cause of a delay if they're not on schedule.
So can receiving FFL's if they are not available to receive a delivery.
Sometimes the FFL must pick the package up at the post office due to prior arrangement with the letter carrier.
Since packages insured by the USPS for over $200 require a signature, the FFL needs to be open to sign or they must pick it up themselves at the P.O..
Not every package has a tracking number. Postal insurance provides a form of tracking packages but a USPS delivery confirmation number isn't necessarily provided by the seller for free unless he volunteers to purchase it.
UPS doesn't transport or deliver packages on weekends, which are not considered to be UPS business days.
It's not uncommon for it to take 10 days to receive a gun after the seller receives payment.
Maybe the seller needed to order a shipping box that will fit a long gun which could take 2-3 days to receive after ordering.
If buying a gun from an auction house after a large auction it can take 20 - 30 days or more to receive an item after payment is made because they can have a lot of guns to pack and ship.
It's just like that Tom Petty song, the waaaaiting is the harrrr-dest paaart! :D

Guys thanks to everyone who responded. It has now been ten days since he said he shipped it and the only major thing that bothers me is I have emailed him through his email address on gunbroker, throught ask seller a question, sent a text message, and left several voicemail messages. Now the funny thing about all that is I received an incoming phone call from his number the other day and when I answered and said hello, he either hung up or was disconnected. I don't think its the cell phone service because it rings and rings and then goe to voicemail. I really like gunbroker and hope it is not a fraud as this would probabley end my gunbroker dealings. I just wished he would be courteous enough to email me back or give me a phone call or text message.

If you mauser does not come in the next few days, contact GB admin. One thing I recommend for any purchase on GB is to check the feedback on the dealer/seller. Was it positive?

chiefr

he had 21 total feedbacks, all were A to A+ with the exception of 1 feedback which was an F. His response was the person wanted out of the deal. So all indications from his feedback says he is probably reliable.

hey guys i just spoke with the seller and he finally returned my call. he said it was because he had been working midnight shift:rolleyes:, but any rate he gave me the tracking number and he was late shipping it out. the item shows it should arrive today, i just hope its the correct rifle. i let you guys know later. i'm a very patient person, but after several days with no response i was getting a little antsy. just bad business on his part and i told him. he was apologetic and offered to get a gift card for me and the wife's favorite restaurant. we'll see!

Rifle was delivered to my local FFL today and its exactly as described. Happy with that, but he was a private seller and forgot to put a copy of his DL in the box, so my local FFL said they can't release the rifle until he sends the copy of his DL  HERE WE GO AGAIN!!!

Well the good part is the rifle is in had. (Well at least in the FFL's hands.) I think it will be easier for the guy to fax, or email a copy of his DL than to ship the rifle.

Please excuse my ignorance with this.. But what does the seller have to include a copy of his DL in the box?

The FFL holder doing the transfer has to record the receipt of the gun in his bound book. To do this, he needs the name and address (or name and FFL number) of the person he received it from. A copy of a DL is the standard way of getting and verifying this info.

the standard way is not what the atf expects, the return address on the shipping carton is enough. if your ffl requirs it,he,s wrong, but if you want to keep him happy ok. eastbank.

I'm an FFL and have received several boxes with only the name of a UPS Store or Bob's Pak n Ship as the return address.

The latest was last week when a $2000 rifle arrived with no information inside and a generic return address.

Saying "the return address on the shipping carton is enough" is flat out, positively, absolutely incorrect. ATF regulations cleary require the receiving dealer to record the identity of the person from whom they acquired the firearm.....and a UPS Store return address is NOT acceptable.
