Marlin Levers (again)

...you can not mount a Lyman or a Williams peep....

mehavey,

Thanks for that post, when I get my .357 if I can ever find one that is exactly what I will get for it. I did not realize that they made them for the new Remlins. That is a great look, but I am also very happy with the Skinner rail, if I ever decide to mount a scope it will be easily taken on and off and I can still use either.

Picked up my 336RC in .30-30 (made in '57 or so) a couple of years ago at a pawn shop. It already had the excellent Williams sights mounted. For $330, I think it was a pretty good buy.

Makes a nice companion for my 39A, also made in the late 50s. I love lever guns, I just wish I had room in my safe for a bunch more. I'm leaving room for a Henry youth .22 lever gun for my son a few years down the road.

Just realized I have no pics of the 39A, oh well, here's the 336RC for now.

I have 3 Marlin Lever actions.

1. Marlin 1894 Originally chambered in 32-20 but rechambered in 357 magnum. This one was my first center-fire rifle. It has taken many deer and I love it. It was made in 1898( if memory serves) At the time it was purchased it was too big for me so my grandfather made a youth sized stock for it and cut the barrel back to 16.5 inches He was a military gun smith and had a lathe. All of my boys took there first deer with this gun and my youngest boy asked for it for graduation. So this coming summer it is his. I also warned him not to sell it and if he ever needed the money for it I would buy it back for more than any pawnshop would offer, but he is sentimental and would not sell it. It has our last name engraved in but stock. My father used the gun for 2 years after his shoulder surgery because of the low recoil.

2. Marlin 1895 Cowboy in 45-70. Been a good gun but of the 3 it would be the first one I sell if it came down to it. It was made in 2008 (If memory serves)

3. Remlin 1895 SBL in 45-70. This one I have a suppressor on, It sounds great shooting those big 550 grain bullets at about 1050 FPS. This is the gun I take big game hunting if I am away from my home. It has always worked well but the fit and finish are not as good as the older marlins. It was made in 2012 (IF memory serves)

I have 2 marlins one is a 45-70 the other is a 450 marlin. They are both good guns the 45-70 was made by Remington. Its been a good gun but the wood to mettle areas leave a bit to be desired. The wood is about 1/16th of an inch taller than the mettle.

The older 450 marlin is a great gun made by the older marlin. It shows more wear but its because it was used a lot more until 450 marlin ammo got more scarce.

I took my first deer with a Marlin 30-30(336C) and Redfield 3x9 scope. That gun led me into collecting Marlins and at one time I had one lever-action Marlin of every caliber and a few spares(40 rifles total) I sold every one of them to fund my now "ex" wife through nursing school. That still hurts (loosing the guns, not the wife)
