Marlin 795 for Appleseed LTR

So I got a good deal on one and bought a NIB Marlin 795, 10-shot magazine fed .22LR for to make a Liberty Training Rifle for Appleseed shoots and to have a .22 plinker. I like the little guy a whole lot and feel that the mag is much easier to use than the several 10/22s I've owned, I like the last round bolt hold open and the general ergonomics of the rifle. Ordered a set of tech Sights for it and a sling as well.

Does anyone know a good source for extra magazines for this model? Fruitless but continued searching! All help appreciated.

even though the midway sight shows the item backordered.. I'd order one, usually they get it to you pretty quick.

and you really need two good magazines to do an Appleseed right.

If you have a DicksSportingGoods nearby, they carry the magazines (or at least they did last time I looked).

Thanks! There's Dick's, Academy, WalMart and a bunch of other places out here so I'll check all of them. I can't see doing any kind of training shoots without at least three mags. Especially these little ten rounders. Wonder if anyone makes a higher cap for this model? Will have to look into it.

On the cover of the instruction manual for this model it reads "Self-Loading Rimfire Rifle (22 L.R. and 17 Mach 2) With Clip Magazine" and that makes me whimsically think of the 'sproing!' of a stripper clip. Odd appellation of .22LR, too. But it's made in America and has that sweet five year warranty, too.

If you have BIG 5 sporting goods in your area, thats where I would go. Used a coupon that you can find online, and it ended up being really cheap.

Budsgunshop.com is the cheapest I have found for the 10 round nickel mags. $12 a mag then $8 flat shipping. I didn't check before posting, but if they are out they usually get them in every couple weeks.

Having never before lived in a state with one, I passed and wandered into an Academy Sports today and bought three of the necessary mags for $10 each on clearance. Such a deal! I also saw, to my chagrin, that they had the 795 for $20 less than my good deal. Upside is I got the mags, discovered the store and they had great prices on pistols and other rifles as well.

Thanks to all!

p.s. I have been into the Cheaper Than Dirt store in McKinney and Fort Worth. In the former, the employees are all know-it-alls save two and in Fort Worth, they are friendly and congenial and very easy to deal with.

I HATE the trigger on the 795 I bought a few weeks ago for $114 -- worst outta the box I've ever felt and I won't even bother shooting it.

Check out rimfirecentral.com, there are stickies with simple 10 minute trigger fixes.

I've got two and they have never FTF/FTE. Me too I like magazine and last round bolt hold open. Bought mags from Marlin way back when and they now cost a bundle. Want to get two more.

I had a rather frustrating morning at the range with this rifle and grumbled to myself all the way home. I've bashed my fingers up for years removing 10/22 magazines and once in a blue moon had FTL/FTE problems with them but this thing was driving me crazy. I gave it a thorough detail cleaning this morning and lightly oiled the pats that needed it and off we went.

No matter which magazine I used, the last round, whether I loaded nine or ten, would wind up jammed vertically as I tried to extract the magazine because the previous round would stovepipe. I was shooting Winchester M22, Remington bulk and CCI Standard Velocity rounds. As I said in my first post, I bought this thing to make a LTR for Appleseed as it has swivel studs, a last round bolt hold open and easily removed magazines. Aargh!

So I did a little research and am going to try this next:

He's a little off on what's the receiver and the bolt, etc. but then again, we see I misidentified an En Bloc clip for a stripper clip (thanks!) and it happens. But I have the Dremel and the wheels and this might be the answer. Will tear it down and clean it over the weekend and try this fix.

Let us know, Sgt. I'm looking to take my nephew to Appleseed someday and was looking around for a pair of good .22s for us to take...

Mark your mags!

With 20-30 mags at a Appleseed you need to mark your mags. A little colored elections tape works great and helps with the grip. I lost one the first day and the second day someone was nice enough to admit they ended up with more than they came with and I got it back.

Will A'seed allow tactical reloads?

I would count rounds and reload at round nine to bypass the problem, while I'm looking for a permanent solution.

I've got the rifle torn down and I'm cleaning it well. Tomorrow I'll be doing some polishing. Thanks as well for the advice on marking the mags and I will certainly keep everyone updated on my progress. Thanks again to all!

Thanks Black -- I checked it out. I had previously cleaned it and looked at how "modern" the trigger is and, between the thin sheet metal, plastic and rivets or whatever the heck it was, doubt(ed) there is anything that can be done.

I saw a sticky on fixing this piece of junk. Taking apart and honing different angles on the hammer and sear in a brand new gun? One that cost $114 if I got the rebate!?

Screw that!!! I am SO ticked off after weighing the 7-lb. trigger that I am going to return it tomorrow afternoon even though I'd decided to just eat it and give it away.

WHAT A DISAPPOINTING PIECE OF GARBAGE. Maybe they can find one that's better and I can exchange it. I'll bring my scale but not counting on it...

Stay away from the new 795's.

Counter point: You bought a $115 gun and a simple 10 minute fix will make the trigger equivalent to that of a replacement $80 light trigger. Compare that to a 10/22 that will come with the same heavy trigger pull but cost twice as much. Savage come with a lighter trigger, but again costs twice as much.
