Marlin 39 or ar15

I would get the 39A as my first choice especially one that dates prior to the safety change. Get the AR later.... lots of time. A few years back I had the opportunity to buy an old Marlin 39.... smooth as silk which the newer ones are not.... passed to my regrets.

Im in no way into the "Tacticool" crap, don't care what the "Cool" kids shoot. Marlin 39 any day over a dime a dozen AR

You can build an AR for $402, evidently ;)

Get the Marlin, the benefits of passing down an antique rifle to a good kid are HUGE!!

I still think of my grandpa every time I pick up his 1952 Marlin 336RC,
and it has collected more deer & hog than any other rifle I've owned!!
Not to mention you kinda get that feeling he's looking down from heaven and smiling every time ya go out with it :)
And I can't wait to teach my sons how to shoot it, where the trigger's sweet spot is, and watch them take their first game!!

I personally like the Marlin 39A more than any AR, however, I think the best decision now would be a cheap S&W or Ruger AR15 with a dozen 30 round pmags while everything is still inexpensive. Then save your money and buy the 39 when the time is right.

This is the way I would go also.

I would love to have another 39 but, right now it makes sense to get an AR and stock up on mags and ammo. We may never see these low prices again, especially after the next election.

The S & W with threaded barrel is the way I went (but I already had a 39A!). Seeing that I now have both guns, which would be the one I would get first? No question, but a vintage Marlin 39A.

I have to add, I have a soft spot for .22, having several dozen (at least), including several 10-22's, multiple Henry's, several Winchester's 94-22's, multiple Savage/Stevens, Brownings and so forth. My favorites: for semi auto, the 10-22. For lever, either a Winchester 94-22 or the Marlin 39A. Just saying.

If you already have a SD apocalypse AR forget about it--get the marlin. If not--for all the stones people throw at them-- I'd get the AR (maybe even better an "AR 308") and a comfortable cache of ammo.
