Marlin 336BL, Should I Buy?

The LGS has a new Marlin 336BL for $470, with tax and background check it would be $508 and change.

The barrel is stamped (REP) followed by a letter that I can't remember to save my life. I understand this is a post-Remington gun, which had bad reviews early on but seem to be improving with more recent reviews.

My questions are, is this a decent price for this gun? And if so, are there certain problem areas that I should inspect closely before handing over my cash?

Thanks,
Ivan

According to the Blue book, it would be a pretty decent price if it is in 100% condition only. Otherwise not so much, 98% $415, 95% $350, 90% $265.

Didn't know there was a blue book for guns! I forgot to mention, the front sight was missing it's hood, which would cost $13 and change shipped from Midway.

Other than the missing hood, the gun was brand new and looked the part. What is the book value for 100% condition?

Ok, that's not too bad of a deal then. Thanks much for the info!

I'm totally new to lever actions, is there anything I should check out specifically, besides general fit/finish and smoothness?

In your first post you said it was a new gun. Is that what it is or is it used? What caliber is it or are they all .30-30?
