marlin 336 help

yall aint gonna believe this. Ok so last night i tried putting a cleaning rod down the barrel....odd, it seemed like there was no fired shell in there. I put a jag on the rod to make sure, and yep, no shell. Then i try lightly tapping the rod but the bolt wasnt moving and i decided not to force issues, ill take it to a gunsmith.

This morning i decide ill try an tear down the gun myself first and i stumble across a post about someone having the same problem as me, and they had recently changed optics on the rifle (i bet some of you see where this is going). I get to thinking, and sure enough i had done the exact same thing earlier this year, took off the scope and put on a red dot, and was going to sight it in later. I rush home at lunch and take off the red dot and the weaver rail and tahh-dahhh......gun functions flawlessly. Yep, one of the screws for the rail was a tad bit long and it was locking the bolt in place.

same thing happened to me

i had the exact same problem.
i wanted to put am optic on my 336, finally got the receiver screws loose and just tightened them back up without putting on the optic.
i went to the range the next day and the damn thing wouldn't open. i stripped the entire gun down at the range with my leatherman.
and finally realized the receiver screws pinched down on the bolt...

if your putting on an optic or checking the factory screws, make sure they aren't too long that they will stick into the bolt
