Marlin 336 is a KEEPER!

Love the look of the "honest wear" on your 336. Character, baby!

Next on my wish list is a 336 in Stainless with the nice stock.

I was thinking this exact, same thing. The wear on the blueing on the edges gives it character. And that "age" 336 should be alot smoother then the ones made today.

I used to have one made about the same time as yours in .35 Remington. Now there was a brush buster (if there actually is such a thing)!

I will respectfully disagree with the "not good guns for a scope" statement as well. I have a 336C with a 3x9x40 that is mounted low and works great and has for years. You don't need a huge scope on these guns as their effective range even with the new lever revolution ammo ( which does improve distance) is not far enough to warrant such a big scope. The 30/30 is great gun when used in the manner for which it was desighned, not shhoting long distances with big scopes.

Besides bench testing, the one reason to mount a large scope on a .30-30 is for light gathering. To give you an exta few minutes of being able to see at dawn or dusk.

However, in these situations you need to be aware of two things. #1) the actual game laws concerning legal shooting time (and make sure your watch is set correctly), and #2 that a high power variable, set on high power is NOT your friend!

As an alternative to a scope, a Lyman receiver peep sight works very well and maintains the clean lines of the rifle, IMHO. Take care. Larry

This one is mine had for a long time. I had a scope on her once but took it off. It didnt suit me or the rifle. I like the stag horn sites.

The 336 is a fine gun. Mine was used by both my grandparents for hunting:

Also used by my dad, in the middle, to take this bear that was tearing up my grandparents bar.:

I'm still using it, and now that I've fixed a feeding issue, I'm sure my grandkids will be using it too. No scope, deep rifling (not the micro-groove) core-lokt and Lyman 311041 soft cast are all this rifle ever shoots.

I truly hope that Remington will work out all of the kinks and build a 336 that at least functions correctly and looks right. All indications are that they are trying to do this. But the first and second runs out of Ilion were a 4.5 out of 10 IMO. The real standard was set by Marlin, and the bar is somewhat high. But I think that eventually they may put out a decent rifle, maybe even in 2012! One can hope.

Merry Christmas! :D

I have a Marlin 336 had it about 40 yrs. it's One of my favorite Rifles . I Have taken several deer with it.

About a month ago my next door neighbor approached me with an offer. He said he was 83 years old and physically couldn't hunt any longer so he offered to sell me his 336 for $250. He had a little Tasco 3-9 scope mounted on it at just the right height for me. I rushed to the house, got my money and paid him on the spot! He even threw in a box of ammo. I still thank him every time I see him!

336

i want one of these, but have no reasonable idea why. i do not hunt anymore, just something about a lever action.

I'm a huge lever action rifle fan, My 336 is one of my Favorites. The other is the Savage 99 (Which I'm still trying to get in 308.) I see a lot of folks with 3x9's on theirs but all I've ever used is a plain jane old x4 Tasco. I usually choose this one out of my rack over my other rifles.

The 336 scope was set on x3 when I got it and it seems about right. I have variables on other rifles but, like this one, they were already mounted when I bought the guns. For what I do x3 or x4 is good enough. I just can't seem to focus with the open sights like I could when I was younger.
