Man sued by family of man he shot in self-defense

The stereotype of being greedy ambulance chasers seems to get heavily reinforced by the lawyers who run the commercials for their services. Sadly, it is members in your own profession who are a big source of your image problem.

That could be said for anyone who sells anything with any kind of advertising, especially crap that is brand-specific. Cars, cereal, Spongebob Squarepants.....I could just as easily say that people who do repetetive work on the line at any of the Big Three are money grubbing whores because they make over $100,000 a year to produce cars that cost more than my last house and they can't read, can barely communicate, and get paid for 8 hours when they work....2....., and smoke dope and get drunk at work every day. And speaking of money-grubbing whores.....NBA...NFL....AHL.....NBC.....CBS.....Yet those guys are heroes.....and often criminals too...

Looks like the classic saying "The rotten apple doesn't fall too far from the rotten tree" applies here..

Never heard that one. Must be regional. I've heard "The fruit doesn't fall far from the tree" but not the other one...I always thought it meant that someone's children often had the same (negative) qualities as their parent. Not sure how it applies here.

There is.

"...I see no reason why a law that says that if you are in the commission of a crime that you (or your survivors) loose [sic] all right to sue anyone if you are injured or die."

Some states have just such a law. If the deceased was an unlawful intruder who was killed or injured by one lawfully defending the home, civil suits against that defender are BARRED.

Do not pass "GO;" do not collect $200........ :D

Things were better when we had just 10 commandments to follow . But then again people were better then .You didn't need a lawyer . You just met and told your side of the story to "The Big Dawg" and it got settled . Usually it was a misunderstanding . If there was treachery by someone the entire group knew about it and that persons name was MUDD . In those days you could banish someone that was a problem . We can't do that now .
I would think that if the family searched out an attorney he would take the case just like a carpenter would build an addition on your house even if he thought it looked ugly . If some POS called them with the promise of riches he should be shown no respect .

More myths

"Things were better when we had just 10 commandments to follow . But then again people were better then."

Really? How? What remotely possible basis do you have for that claim?

The bible is full of stories of treachery, murder, and wanton action. Jacob and Esau, Cain and Abel, Sodom and Gomorrah - any of those ring a bell, historical scholar?

"You didn't need a lawyer . You just met and told your side of the story to "The Big Dawg" and it got settled."

Yeah, all those peasants really got a fair hearing from the lord - and the only way you might possibly get heard by the king - who depends on the lords for support - it to hope YOUR petition (assuming you could actually write) made it into the collection basket periodically waved over the hordes outside the palace, was actually READ by a minister who screened them, and sent for hearing.

Did I mention plying judges with gifts was common? Or that "it got settled" by stoning or being banished into the desert?

Tell us again about "the good old days" - fantasies are so entertaining.....

All these things happened BEFORE the issuing of The Commandments . You are full of hate against religion and it shows .

Just came back to this thread and saw how my remarks regarding the profession of "lawyering" caused some to take offense. My apologies. Just speaking from experience. I'm sure there are some who are upright solid citizens, Abraham Lincoln perhaps. I've only met one. In a small town in Alabama (Ft. Paine). And a Democrat ta' boot. An honest, down to earth, fair, man of faith and prudence with a life long guide called Common Sense. All others in my affairs I've had to put the their case together and then enjoy the privilege of paying for it.

And what's changed since?

"All these things happened BEFORE the issuing of The Commandments."

What, and people then became perfect? IF you recall, Moses himself destroyed the originals because, while he was on the mountain, the Israelites were busy creating the golden calf and worshipping IT. So much for simplicity and perfection...

Your claim that the 10 Commandments were then the only laws is also absurd. Judaism has a host of dietary and custom laws, reams of analyses of each, and how they are to be observed and applied.

There was NEVER a time when the 10 Commandments were the only laws, and the rest of world - which is to say, MOST of the world - had other cultures, each with its own laws. The coda of a few tribes of migrant herdsmen were NOT the norm, or any form of cultural imperative.

"You are full of hate against religion and it shows."

No, I have no use for baseless bloviation and mindless drivel. And I don't care if that shows. :barf:

...and TheBluesMan slaps a padlock on the thread for veering into religious issues and general lack of civility, sadly. :(
