Making my own hybrid holster, attempt #1

Tandy has leather you can buy online or in local stores ( I have a Tandy store about 15 miles from my house ) but I bought a tooling side from the Zack White link I posted previously, on line, which cost around $150.00 & was enough for many many holsters...

BTW... you want vegi tanned leather only for use with guns... some of the colored & sweades are chrome tanned & have residual chromium salts & will corrode guns...

Hey WAR... you might try molding in the gun at a cant as well... I find a canted gun pulls the butt of the grip in closer to the body, & prints alot less...

I sew my belt loops at an angle, but with the Kydex, you could just mold the gun in at an angle if you wanted...

this is another I made, deminstrating the cant...

MWM, more cant molded in is definitely part of the plan for the next holster. The first one was made with a scrap of Kydex I had on hand, so I was limited by the size of the scrap. I'm also going to make my own belt clips and use the clips, rather than holes in the leather, to fine tune the cant and depth. The fun thing about this is that I can just keep on improving the design and I enjoy making each version!

I'm making my own patterns, I bought alot of old holsters, alot of which the stiching was bad, so I've been using the basic shapes for patterns ( just finished a 100 year old design flap holster last night ) but most of my holsters are of my own pattern, & how I put them together, some I've pulled apart & put back together 3 or 4 times changing things... so I've only been doing this for a couple months, & I already have several of my own designs & I also get alot enjoyment fom making the changes & designing my own stuff

Warhammer,

I'm not home or I'd get ya the exact brand of glue I used - I bought both the glue and the material at Jo-ans, a craft store full of nice old ladies.

What I used was spray glue made for putting material down onto hard surfaces. There were several brands and grades. I bought the heaviest duty sounding one, it was about 10 bucks.

The cloth I bought was black flannel blanket material. It is very soft and just thick enough to provide some cushion.

I sprayed the leather, waited for it to become a bit tacky, and then laid the cloth down tight. After trimming to holster size it looks like it came that way.

I'm telling ya it was the best thing I ever did to all my holsters - very comfortable and in the case of the cross-breed super tuck, which is much like the one you made, you don't notice that you are wearing it.

Thanks Dc9,
I think I'm going to try that on my next holster. Although I honestly don't find the bare leather all that uncomfortable, I'm always open to improvements. My Kydex should be here tomorrow so I can get started. (I hate waiting!)
