Making all black sights more visible

Brownell's sells a kit with a two part acrylic and a bunch of differnt colored pigments. You can apply it to ramp sights, or fill in 3 dot sights. You can also cut a dovetail in a sight and fill in that way. It's much more durable and professional looking than any paint. It costs a bit, but you could make up for it charging your friends $5 to do theirs, or you can get the acrylic from a beauty supply store. It's the same thing they use to make fake fingernails. Pigments are available there or from art supply type craft stores.

I've used the bright fluorescent paint that is made for fishing jig heads. It comes in many different colors, it's very durable, and it seems to be unaffected by the gun solvents I use.

I take a can of gloss white enamel paint (rustoleum, ect) and use a toothpick to dab a dot at the top center of the front sight and inside top corners of the rear sight for a 3 dot setup. Works great for me. Ypu can pick any color you like but on black sights I like white dots myself.

I personally find that I pick up black on black sights faster and shoot more accurately with them (by far) than three dots. I know that Jeff Cooper (among others) advocated that you should black out the white dots on sights to allow quicker focus on the front sight. Am I in the minority here?

I have black on black Novak's on a hi power and I shoot the best groups of any of my pistols with it.

If I black them out, they wont glow in the dark. :)

Ive been shooting three dot sights since before they were lit. These days, I see the dots before I see a "normal" sight picture, and have to shift my focus to get one.

For me, the three dots are a a good bit faster, and easier to shoot with (and in any light or lack of it), especially with fast, closer in shooting. As the distance opens up and time slows down a little, the shift allows for more precise longer range shots.

Thanks for the link to Bright Sights gunsight paints. I just ordered 2 bottles of Green. I was going to get hammered on shipping on 2 bottles the same as on just one. Ordering 2 bottles made the cost per bottle a little better.

white touchup paint and a tiny brush or q-tip to apply ... works great, use water-based paint and it will come off fairly easily if you have to remove it ...
