Makarov Pistols

Hemlock, you need to contact Joe Bunczk at Phoenix Armory at P.O. Box 444, Eagleville, PA 19408-0444, tel. 610/539-0733. He was great to work with. It has been several years since I had my Mak worked by him, but it cost me $187 at the time for the following modifications:
A)Trigger job
B)Smooth up operation of decocker/safety
C)Open up and flare ejection port
D)Polish feed ramp
E)Bevel Magazine well opening
F)Complete check of functioning
G)Polish and Reblue entire gun
H)Test fire for accuracy (target included)

I may have missed a couple of modifications, but I just don't remember everything. I believe I paid around $60 to have the front sight ground off and have a new tritium night sight dovetailed in. The gun was beautiful when it came back and it worked as well as it looked. Joe shoots each gun for functioning and accuracy (I believe it was 7 or 10 yards). The target I got back with the gun had 5 shots forming a 7/16 inch group with Blazers.

I had it hardchromed because of the high humidity where I live. By the way, Accurate Plating and Weaponry in Florida is tops for the hardchrome.

If memory serves me right, the turnaround time from Phoenix Armory was around 6 weeks. I have had many guns customized by smiths like Novaks and Jack Weigand. This Mak Pak by Joe was as good as any of them.

Just to add my 2 cents worth! I have 2 EG's and a Russian Military, and all 3 perform admirably. The Russian is my favorite with one of the smoothest triggers I've ever felt. I too like the original grips, and with S&B ammo it is quite comfortable. A tad heavy for concealed carry, but not enough to be concerned with.

I had Joe do up a Bulgarian Mak for me and he did a great job. Now however I have 4 East German Maks and two of them are the most accurate of about 25 that I've owned. The other two are soon to be for sale as I continue to search for two more superior EGs.

I am such a fan of the accuracy and dependability of the Makarov in 9x18 that I no longer have any of the 9s, 45s, 40s, nor expecially NONE of the hundred or so Walther .380s as I just can't stay in love with any other pistol any more since I've started shooting the Makarovs. I ordered my first one when they were $1200 and you had to wait a year or more to get them. They were worth the price then -- NOW they are undoubedly the best bargain in firearms.
