mailing pistols

I imagine they might wonder why you are shipping car parts to a gun dealer - anything not to pay a claim, you know.

I regularly send firearms that are C and R eligible on my Class 3 license through the USPS as priority mail. The gun must be C and R eligible.

i went to mail a pistol back to beretta and they told me it had to be delivered next day air, well it was gonna cost 85.00 to do so thru UPS:mad:

It is not legal to mail a handgun through the UPPS using your C&R. Long arms may be mailed by anybody as long as they are in compliance with GCA 1968 and whatever other laws are applicable. Per USPS (bolding is mine):

"11.1.3 Authorized Persons
Subject to 11.1.4, handguns may be mailed by a licensed manufacturer of firearms, a licensed dealer of firearms, or an authorized agent of the federal government or the government of a state, territory, or district, only when addressed to a person in one of the following categories for use in the person's official duties:

a. Officers of the Army, Coast Guard, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, or Organized Reserve Corps.

b. Officers of the National Guard or militia of a state, territory, or district.

c. Officers of the United States or of a state, territory, or district, whose official duty is to serve warrants of arrest or commitment.

d. USPS employees authorized by the Chief Postal Inspector.

e. Officers and employees of enforcement agencies of the United States.

f. Watchmen engaged in guarding the property of the United States, a state, territory, or district.

g. Purchasing agent or other designated member of agencies employing officers and employees included in 11.1.3c. through 11.1.3e. "

My C&R license specifically states: THIS LICENSE DOES AUTHORIZE THE HOLDER TO ENGAGE IN THE BUSINESS OF DEALING IN ANY FIREARMS.

I went to UPS to mail it, but they told me I couldn't b/c I'm not a dealer. I showed them in their policy that it's OK, but they didn't believe me. I talked with their supervisor, but still no mercy. I ended up going to the local FFL and having it shipped to a FFL near my friend's home.
So much for the 2nd ammendment. You just mention the word "gun" nowadays and people get scared and think you're a criminal.

Customer service should have been consulted by the supervisor, but then, if he can't comprehend the policy manual, he probably can't read their phone number either.

Josh,

I'm glad you found a way to legally send the firearm, but please don't let it end there. The dimwits at UPS need to be educated for the benefit of other gun owners and for their own benefit.

Did you get the names of the people you spoke to at the UPS customer counter? If so, please contact UPS and tell them you plan to ship another firearm and that they need to teach these people the rules of their company.

(This was at a UPS facility, right? The retail "UPS Store" locations are not allowed to accept firearms.)

-Dave

I talked with their supervisor who did talk to UPS Cust. Serv.
No, I didn't get any names - I was very busy and didn't have time for that.
I'll be out of the country for a few months and I don't have the time/money to make those kind of calls.
