Well, I have to re-think this .45-70 in a revolver thing a little... I bought one a couple weeks ago, and it's turning out to be a whole heck of a lot better performer than I thought it would be. Twenty six grains of Alliant 2400 under a 405 grain cast bullet goes across my chrono at just exactly 1400 fps, and makes one big ragged hole at 25 yards measuring not much more than an inch across. Fifty yard groups are often under two inches, and seldom over two and a half, center to center. This is just a starting load too, but the higher I went, the worse the accuracy became. I went up to thirty grains with the 405 grain bullet, but twenty six was what gave me the best accuracy. The next thing was coming up with a holster for this monster. Here's my prototype, a bandolier carry. I think I nailed it the first time, as I don't see anything I need to change.
