M96 Recon

I got mine for $1300 including two 20 round mags and a Harris bi-pod. I guess it helps that I spend about 3K a year at that gun shop. I was planning on ordering the carbine kit....not anymore, it's definitely the Recon Kit. I have the short sight rail on the way. Next is an Aimpoint Comp ML2 or comparable red dot.

Hey George-don't take credit for the idea. Al Gore was on Fox News tonight saying he invented the M96 Recon Kit.

about the reliability post earlier on in the thread.

Take your AK, M-96, FAL, AR, and any other gun you own,and you say is reliable. then carry it, do some running jumps into the prone position in the local desert, or sandy beach or adverse terrain. do it for a few miles. As you go, fire a few rounds here and there, then pretend your being shot at, drop and roll. I love AR's, I love all guns, xcept colt all american 2000, which gun will fail first? I do not know about the m96, but i do know the AR will jam! or fail to go into battery, it has a frikin dust cover which admits it needs to stay clean inside! The AK will fire no matter what as well as the FAL(i know mine will, one of mine even has dust groove in the bolt!)

Im not baggin on AR's im just saying they are built too well, but IMO they were over engineered. I have heard credible people in the US military, say, they would take an M1A, or an AK over an AR/M4/16....

I like them all I wn AR, AK, FAL's, but i ran outa money and cant get m96's anymore, M1A is next

and the shorty m96 does look sweet!

Accuracy...
Its on par with the other rifles mentioned above. Probably better than the FAL and AK, but not as tight as the AR. The AR is certainly the most accurate of these rifles... but also the most delicate and feeble. Who needs delicate?

If I ask Too many questions tell me to shut up!

But I never heard about this gun and I thought the AR was the only other .223 option out there. $1300 ain't too bad considering I just spent $1000 on a FAL a few months ago.

What are those Loop things on the Shroud of the gun? They don't look like Scope rings.

Does this gun break open for cleaning like the shotgun action FAL's and AR's do?

Those little eye rings?
Part of the overall "Hey, this is a clever rifle" concept.
Those rings allow the reciever to transform into the Bren configuration (when those extra parts are available) and allow for a very fast and easy on/off and positioning of the scope rail.
Simple bolt through there holds it on rock steady.
