M96 Recon

Okay so earlier today I am talking to some buds at work and one of them mentions the new version of the M96. I see its mentioned here too in another thread.
Take a look at it:

I don't know if you guys remember, but earlier this year I edited some M96 images and "created" the M96K. Alex Robinson said that it was not possible to make.
Now he goes and makes it!

Hey Alex! YOUR WELCOME!

Very nice. Remind us once again, though, why the M96 is better than a M4 configuration that is 1.5-2.0 lbs. lighter.

(BTW, I am not being a smarta** - I really would like to know, especially since I would like to get one someday.)

Folding stocks will become kosher in about 3 years if all goes well.

That is a handy looking piece. With the green furniture, it looks awesome.

Why is it better than an M-4?

Easy. Because the M-4 is an AR variant and all ARs suck to a shockingly high degree.

It's all about reliability, and the M96 has it and the ARs pretend to have it.

Uh-huh. Well, George, when my M4gery starts to fail on a regular basis, or even once for that matter, I'll listen up. Until then, I don't know if the M96 has anything over the AR other than "wow" appeal.

Damn George,
Just when I had decided I had enough .223s.

Oh well, it's just money.. guess I would a blew it on something else, anyway!

Gotta get me one for sure!

Oh.. if it's OK.. I ALSO have a bunch of ARs.
I never play the "get one or the other" game... too restricting.

I like to play the "get them all while you can" game.

NICE!

dZ - while there are a few differences, an M96 scaled up would be essentially a FAL. Not that I wouldn't buy one (if it took FAL mags...).

The M96 is awesome. Unfortunately it is waaaay out of my current price range.

A.308 would definitely have a "cool" factor. I agree with smithz, it would need to take FAL mags.

OK Guys............

Whats the Hub Bub about this gun? I never heard of them before. Kinda curves like a G36 with a difference Stock.

Hubbub:

1. suck-free gas system
2. clean operating
3. resurrection / improvement of Stoner 63A design
4. takes AR-15 mags
5. interchangable barrels
6. made in the USA, so
7. we can obtain it (unlike the G36 or SIG550).

with a volume manufacture level the M96 should be cheaper than an AR15 to produce

maybe someday Bushmaster will crank them out

They probably would be cheaper than ARs if Robinson Arms received Federal money to develop the gun the way Colt did for the AR. Since they didn't, they have to recoup that money through sales only. Pretty courageous to jump into new ("new" since only one or two parts interchange with Stoner63) weapon development and production in this day and age.

smithz, you forgot to include, "fixed ejector" to your list of plusses.
