My gun dealer just called and my brand new M&P15 Sport will be here next Tuesday, Oct 11th. I got it for $594.00. It includes the gun and a 30 round Magpul magazine. I told him to have them send an extra magazine with it.

Now I need to plan a range session for next weekend! I'm excited. Feels like Christmas!

Thanks. I've been researching AR's for a while and debating what to spend. This will be fairly lightly used and well taken care of. It gets good reviews and I think it's a great value. I'm looking forward to a range session.

I'm sure it'll serve you well. Be sure to try out some heavy ammo for accuracy. With the 5R, 1/8 twist, it should should shoot pretty accurate.

Excellent. Mine has been stellar. I need to get a smaller peep for it though, the Leapers that comes with it is a bit large for longer ranges.

Congratulations!!!

One thing you might want to change right away is the handguard. It does not have a heat shield (all plastic no aluminum inside). Can get hot quickly.

Other than that, enjoy your new rifle and safe shooting. :)

Don't forget to post pics and range results.

I think it's sort of a validation on you don't have to spend tons of cash to own a reliable and accurate AR.

Thanks for the comments everyone. When I get my rifle I will post pics and I'll provide a range report when I shoot it. This looks to be a good entry level AR for me. I'm very familiar with the manual of arms and the reviews on this rifle seem good.

I realize there are higher end AR's out there, but for now, I'm hoping this meets my needs. I just can't justify spending upwards of $1000 for a better AR.

I picked up my M&P15 Sport late this afternoon. The pickup process went very smoothly and I was out within 20 minutes. Unboxing was nothing special. It came in a padded box with one 30 round magpul magazine in a vacuum seal bag.

I spent about 30 minutes going over the rifle carefully. My observations:

- The fit and finish seem very nice
- everything seems tight and the rifle has a uniform color and finish
- The upper and lower fit together nicely
- The six position stock operates smoothly and allows for a nice fit for me
- The rear sight locks flat for storage and snaps up to be used. It seems solid
- The bolt carrier group had a light coat of oil on it and seems a little stiff, I assume that's because it's brand new and will loosen up as it wears a little.
- It's a nice looking rifle!

Thus far, I'm impressed with my purchase. Of course, I haven't fired it yet. I hope to do that Friday or Saturday.

M&P-15 Sport

I saw one on the Gun Store counter last week, waiting to be put on the gun rack and I liked what I saw. It came home with me yesterday after the Maryland's cooling off period. I just had to have the carbine. I a very happy man. Paid $ 629.00 plus Tax

do most of the LGS in your area have these? my LGS gives me a line that there is nothing special about this gun that would make him carry it when he has DPMS which are better for same price (typical his stuff is best gun dealer). I would really like to get a M&P15 sport but don't want to pay $649 plus $25 to mt FFL for the gun. one of the most attractive points on this quality gun is the $599 tag.

waymore....my gun dealer had to order mine, but I had it in 2 days. I paid $594 for it. I looked at the DPMS Sportical, as well. They are similarly priced and have similar features. What swayed me to the S&W were:

- The S&W name and warranty
- The S&W came with a sighting system as well as the top rail
- The S&W has a brass deflector

Here's a review that helped me decide:

Good luck with your decision,

I bought mine yesterday. Since I live in California, mine will come with a ten round magazine, a bullet button and a ten day wait.

I've been told that the lower is made by Stag Arms, and the barrel by Thompson Contender, who was bought by Smith and Wesson and it is a 1:8, 5r (gain twist) barrel with no flash hider. The rear sight is by Magpul.

Some people are concerned that it doesn't have a dust cover or a forward assist and that the barrel in not chromed. Since I will not be deploying anywhere Mid East or into a Vietnamese jungle with it, the point is moot. Do your research and you will find out what these things were intended for. If it floats your boat to have these features, there are about a zillion models out there with them.

I'm just glad to be able to buy an AR in California finally. By the way, I paid $625 plus tax for mine. I pick it up next Saturday. I think S&W will sell a bunch of these.
