M&P Shield 9mm w/safety

If you take a look at different pistols, you might notice some have a slide stop that lends itself to releasing the slide (Beretta 92FS, 1911) while others have a lower profile design that doesn't work well for that purpose (Glock..etc.).

So you're saying its just a matter of leverage? My berretta has a slide lock lever that is about an inch long.. It doesn't take much force to disengage it at all and is how I prefer to release the slide.. Seems much faster than having to use two hands.

I would imagine that my Berretta 92 is not nearly as "concealed carry" friendly.. You basically need a shoulder harness or a wheelbarrow to carry it around as it feels like a brick.

we have on shield with a safety and one without. we do not use safeties anyway.

fwiw-- I was told years ago NOT to use a slide release/lock to release the slide. In our nra safety course ,we were taught to slingshot the slide to assure proper battery and not to damage a slide stop

congrats on getting your wife to join the sport

Not necessarily. Part leverage and part design intent. Ever notice how the Beretta slide stop protrudes out and away from the gun so you can get good purchase with your thumb? Is the Shield like that?

As for the M92 being a brick...I carried one on duty for about 20 years and never felt it was too heavy...I wasn't trying to conceal it but I doubt the M92 was primarily designed for that.

Glock 43 on back order for over 2 months

But the store is getting some 9mm Shields in today. Might consider the Shield . I have one 43 now but tired of waiting for Glock to catch up.

I think my wife tried holding the Glock 43.. that's the baby glock yes?
She didn't like it at all.. The handle was too short.

As for the safety issue , I originally bought the non-safety version and returned it for the safety version , when I realized how little takeup the trigger had before firing .

My G 42 is a great little pistol, purchased the G 43 and was very disappointed in the way it pointed/ felt in my hand and the way it shot. Guess i was spoiled with my Sig P 938. Traded the Glock for another P 238 and a pile of mags then my buddy presented me with a new Shield. The Shield is everything good that i did not like about the G 43, it shoots little tiny groups to point of aim and with a Kydex holster disappears for carry. This is a safety model but doubtful it will be used while i have the pistol. The slide stop/ release (whichever you choose to call it) is next to impossible to use with an empty mag and slide locked to rear. Simply remove the mag and it will activate more easily (if that is how you want to release the slide) i make no judgements on how an individual wishes to operate his own firearm.
