M&P 15-22

Picked up a nice M&P 15-22 tonight at my LGS. I went in just looking and found a very lightly used one with the MBUS sights and an ATN sight. They just got it in so it has to be held for 15 days to make sure it wasn't stolen before the trade-in. I really wish I could have bright it home tonight, but, I wouldn't have been able to shoot it yet anyway.

Does anyone have one of these that can give me some input? I know the reviews have been good, anything I need to know?

You bought a great little gun. I've had mine for several years and never had any problem with it after shooting thousands of rounds. I usually shoot Federal or CCA Blazer bulk pack ammo, works fine. The gun is stripped down almost exactly like its 'big brothers so its a snap to clean.

My 13 year old grandson loves shooting it because the stock can collapse to fit him.

You can go on line and download the ownwers manual if you want to read it before picking you gun up.

I can't wait to get it home. My 9yr old is going to freak out. He's been wanting me to buy an AR since he's been playing Black Ops on the PS3. This one he'll be able to shoot also. I had him shooting a 10/22 already so he will love this.

The only things i heard is to make sure it has the "blue spring".

Just look in the lower and you will see it. If it's not Blue then it's not the updated spring. That and make sure you load the ammo in the mag correctly.

I have had no problems - but this is what I read on the internet before purchasing mine. Reading too much on the internet can make you paranoid about anything.

I Use Federal Automatch - no problems at all.

Oh and I love my 15-22!

1. Buy Federal Automatch (tan box) from Wally World

2. Go to nearby range

3. Enjoy!

4. Clean after shooting and lightly lube.

5. Repeat steps 1-4 :D

Safe Shooting!

This is basically the best firearm to purchase on the market rivht now.

Seriously- THERE IS NO FINER FIREARM FOR THE MONEY IN THE INDUSTRY RIGHTN NOW.

I happen to have tkane my 15-22 seriously and mine is basically the 'coolest'best you will ever see but there are a million pretty nice ones out there :))

So you will find they are HIGHLY HIGHYL Customizeable. You of course can take it out of the box and shoot it and never think twice about it otherwise but- it is probably the most highly customizable rifle there is (Other than all that bulstuff you can do if you're a a member of the 10.22 cult which I will never join the cult of the 10/22).

You can set the rifle up like a sniper rifle, set it up like a CQB rifle (which mine is) ...>Set it up like a M4 (someone did an exact replica on here)... put sniper scopes or rifle scopes /etc. on it, put holosights or red dot sights etc.... put easy to use and find $40 , 4 reticle holosights on them which will do their job as advertised, or do like I do, have $600 Aimpoints or $600 EOTechs etc. or hell, $1000 Leupold/Zeissetc. long scopes.

the rifle is so LIGHT you ight WANT to add weight... I had to it was just too light for me@!1

Plus its so well made it can shoot almost all ammos but its such a good rifle, it will use well made ammo even better. I can shoot Federal Bulk Pack, value 525 rds of 36 gr Hollow Points, which are usualy $20 or so but can do onsale, I can shoot them accurately, reliablyt, sand fast as I can pull the trigger, all day long. I can increase the accuracy etc. with Federal AutoMAtch, a new ammo thayts $15-$17 for 325.

It will shoot real good ammos like CCI MiniMags 36 gr hollow points / 40 gr round nose, will shoot them with lethal precision and MArine Corps reliablity. IT will shoot real expensive match ammo like a target rifle .

This is really my favorite thing... I have a ceheapo strap sling on it 9The ONOY THING i cheaped out on, and I will get a good sling soon) ... and believe u me that rifle will be slung over my shoulder in any and all situatitns..
I want it with me for the quick shooter, light weight, rugged handling, etc. Just perfect perfect rifle.

But be careful. I got about $1500 on mine, most ppl think Im crazy but... Its my baby.

My son bought one back in the Spring. He has put several thousand rounds through it with absolutely no problems. So I go out and buy one for myself. I fired about 300 rounds through it and it started malfunctioning. (trigger problem). I have cleaned and lubed it but haven't had the chance to go back to the range...maybe tomorrow.

tAKticool - just spit it out, man! Do you like it???

:D

Seriously, glad you have something you dig that much. I need to build up a rapport with my collection. The M&P 15-22 is on my list, for sure.

@leathermarsmallow - sorry to hear about your malfunction.
Have you figured out what caused it? What exactly was the problem with the trigger?
Did you clean it before shooting for the first time?
What brand ammo were you using?
Hope it shoots better for you next time.

Jimmy u should be Nice and not pick on ppl - u never know wants going on in someones life or who's having a rougher tougher day than you maybe.

I have a 15-22, and while it's a neat rifle, it's definitely not match-grade (not even close) in its stock form, and it's not my favorite .22. I guess my lukewarm feelings toward the 15-22 are based on the facts that a) I have two real AR-platform rifles, and b) my other .22's are much more accurate and (for me) more fun to shoot.

I'm torn between just leaving the rifle alone, or having the barrel threaded for a muzzle brake and floating the hand guard. I've already modified the trigger and swapped out the pistol grip.

In all honesty, any gun is only as useful/fun as the shooter wants it to be (once you discount any hardware issues that might be present).

If you bought one, take it out and shoot the crap out of it, and have fun.

Well, I was back at the range today with my 15-22. I put another 300 rounds through it with no problems. I am shooting winchester bulk ammo through it. I believe that it gets a little dirty in the trigger mechanism and causes it to have a problem with trigger re-set. No problems today. I think I will keep this rifle! It is a fun gun to shoot and for less than $20 you can shoot for a couple of hours!

was not trying to bust on anyone

Seriously. Knowing how enthused a shooter is about a gun is really helpful, and pushed me from 'maybe someday' to 'definitely soon'.

I had hoped the big grin smiley would make clear my meaning. Any hurt feelings, I apologize.

This is awesome, I hesitated for a few minuets before saying yes. I'm glad I did after reading all of the great reviews from you guys on TFL. Now to get some toys for it. It already has MBUS flip up sights, ATN reflex sight, and Hogue Grips. I'm looking at extra mags, rail covers, and a laser or Red Dot. Anything I'm missing?

@jsimmons -

having the barrel threaded for a muzzle brake and floating the hand guard

A muzzle brake on a .22 lr? Why? What would this do for the rifle?

Also, to float the handguard, are you replacing the whole thing to float it? Or are you just taking the end cap from the original handguard?

I'm just really curious about this.

@ OttoJara -
Anything I'm missing?

Ammo! Lot's of it. Different ones, to see which one works best.

And a good 3-9x or 4-16x scope.

22 ammo is on the list. Couple bulk boxes are in order. We're going to NC for CHRISTmas, this will make the trip with us.
