I don't know enough about UK politics to discuss it in any detail, it differs a bit from for example the Scandinavian kind. But I think the differences between Europe and the US are more complex than just "right wing" or "left wing". Personally I have some views that would probably seem slightly "left of center" to you, but, for argument's sake, if I found myself in the twilight zone, switched at birth or something and was asked to vote in the US, I would (probably) vote for the same candidate as most of you guys. Go figure. Our societies are just wired a bit differently, and what is right (pun intended) here isn't necessarily right there. (Now I got myself all confused, I have to stop before I get a headache :) )

All 14,000 TFLers on an asteroide? All of us with a personal rifle range off the back porch? It better be a big one.
On the plus side, there would be no need for any maneuvering thrusters for the asteroid. "Ladies and gentlemen, may I have your attention, please. Will all those on the southern hemisphere please point your guns at the third star from the left. All together now, fire!" :D
 
So this is the loophole that is causing the crime rate to soar in the UK! Thank God the government found it in time! :rolleyes:

Re: manouvring thrusters. I'm all for them. The thought that an asteroid should just be left to sit in situ when it could be puttering around policing up other rocks to refine is anathema. Also, with the blasting and the drilling and the things, Asteroid Billiards would probably ensue.

Bog, about the thrusters, what I meant was that if everyone was shooting in the same direction, the "equal opposite force" would take care of the problem. IF you could get everyone to agree on the correct angles, of course... and I'm sure someone would insist on firing his full auto .900 SuperMag out of sequence, just to see what happened. :)

Y'see, without an atmosphere to oppose the impetus of those 13,999 TFLers' guns, Bobby-go-Backwards' shooting out of sequence would just spread the delta v over a longer peroid of t, it wouldn't actually diminish the overall change in velocity.

Oh, Gh0d, I can see it now. I'd give it three years until they:

(A) Decided that the simple but involable rules of keeping as space habitat functioning were "unfair", and killed themselves.

(B) Decided that they lusted for the blue skies and "free air" of home, and started to cause irritation to those back on Terra.

And, hopefully, got them and their rock nuked to an inoffensive cloud of free radicles having blown their last chance of being tolerated. Bwah ha ha.
