So I am looking to get this baby refinished.

I am looking to do it in an all black finish. I am looking for suggestions. I was thinking Black T from Birdsong but am looking for other suggestions with one caveat. I will not send the gun to CCR. I do not want to get into why in this thread and I will leave it at that.

So thoughts? Remember this is an alloy gun so that is a consideration. Black T will cost me about $165 with 2 mags so something in that or up to that price range is cool with me.

Well, let me stick my nose in your business and ask...WHY ?
IMNHO, that is exactly how a pistol is supposed to look, well used and slick.

I understand what you are saying but I also have concerns that long term with continued use the slide will develop pitting. I am not as concerned about the alum frame. :D

I do not mind a gun with solid honest wear but I also want to avoid damage. I know that keeping it well oiled will help but it is hard to carry a gun dripping in oil. LOL

I believe S&W will do bluing plus the back anodizing finish but they are more than Black T and other aftermarket finishes. They want $200 to redo the gun.

It looks good to me. At least with some ware you won't be afraid to carry to. Unless you are building a safe queen. if you fell that motivated...

It looks god to me. At least with some ware you won't be afraid to carry to. Get a can of Kraylon from Walmart if you fell that motivated...in many colors. Just degrease it well...it will destroy any value however...I'll gove you $100 when u are done bubbbing it..++

Thanks for the worthless post. Why on earth would I spray paint this gun? Your suggestion is beyond stupid. I can only assume that was a horrible attempt at humor.

Seriously no one has a suggestion for a nice black finish that will work on a alloy pistol?

I think it would look good with a sand and dk earth digital camo :D

Contact these guys if you are looking for cerakote they are fast and do good work, I know there are other guys that do it but these guys get yu your gun back before the night sights are dimmed, lol.. I got some quotes from smaller companies and they were 20-60 weeks, lol...

I would do it something different, maybe 2 tone like my ed brown special forces, always looks classy...

The sky is the limit with cerakote and it wears like iron...

good luck

I'm one that would leave it be, but that really isn't your query. I'd take a look at Mac's Shooting Irons Refinishing. I'd also look at GunKote which is a bulletproof finish which I believe he offers. He did some work for me that was doggone good and reasonably priced.

I think the gun deserves a refinish, why not have the lady looking her best? I'm afraid I don't know anything about refinishing however, so my post is worthless other than being supportive of your goal.

I'm not very knowledgeable in the aftermarket finish department (as evinced by my thread on the subject). Is there any reputable company that offers one of the ferritic nitrocarburizing treatments that results in a matte black appearance?

Dave Severns does a "hard hat" treatment thought to be a type of ferritic nitrocarburizing. He has a great reputation and his hard hat treatment is said to be top notch. He mostly does 1911 work but may do the treatment on non-1911s. Probably not cheap.

Is Mac's still in business can't find his website. Old links look dead.

Hard Hat will not work on the Alum Alloy frame so he is out.

APWCOGAN is on the list of maybes but at $240 for black chrome I would have a hard time justifying it.

One of the big issues here is the alloy frame which rules out a lot of finishes and leaves me with a lot of spray and bake stuff.

It's not clear if Mac's is still in business. A shame if he isn't. Last I knew he was and he did good work. Nonetheless, there are many good options for the refinish.

I just sent my fourth gun to Robar. You can get Roguard in black and NP3 the internals.
I recommend it.
My Kimber is done just like that.

I wouldn't worry too much about rust/pitting on the slide. I have a 22/45 that has no finish whatsoever and has been that way for 2 years and hasn't shown a spot of rust. I have been meaning to have it duracoated but for some reason never got around to it.
