Looking to buy WWII rifle or lever action

I just assumed you would be smart enough to find a reputable and experienced reloader like me.

At 72 years old I have reloaded tens of thousands of rounds of ammo - and never had a misfire or mishap yet!

Another vote for a Garand from CMP.
Another option is an M1 Carbine , but the lady of the house might decide to claim it as her own.

if you're looking at cheap, mosin nagant 91/30 is the way to go the rifle is 70-110 dollars and the ammo is dirt cheap. only problem with them are that they were pumped out in the millions during WWII and had virtually no Q/C and after that they've been banging around in crates for the last 80 years so they are beat up and may or may not be put together well, a good marlin levergun is hard to beat though, brownings and winchesters are good too but way outside your price range unless you buy used

Every red blooded American should have a Garand. CMP sells '06 ammo for less the $.50 a piece.

You have to be careful with surplus rifles, either the Garand, Mosin, or what ever, It's a dease. You'll end up with more and more, then you have to have bayonets to go with them. Then you'll get hooked on CMP GSM Vintage Rifle shooting........next comes the Vintage Sniper Matches and you have to start all over.

I have a Marlin Lever 357, its a heck of a lot of fun, but nothing compared to my surplus rifles.

Plenty of Winchester 94's in 30-30 around. Ammo isn't too bad but do learn to reload. Some good advice you'll probably ignore is never shoot anyone else's reloads and don't let them shoot yours.

for $600 go with a K-31, Mauser of your choice and a MN 91/30.
Get your C&R license for $30 and have them delivered to your home.

I'll echo the suggestion to get a CMP Garand. Get a can or three of HXP M2 while you'rer shopping there.

If you want to be sure your new Garand is WWII era, just order a Winchester.

Kar98 Mauser... can find an excellent one for 300 or less. 8mm surplus can still be found, accurate, dependable and it kills deer just fine.

Id go with the 357 magnum carbine. Very fun gun and good for any thing up to deer as long as the shooter does his part and stays in range.

You can also shoot 38 special which are cheeper to shoot and have vertually no recoil at all in a carbine.

For home defence I think a lever action is much better than a bolt gun.

This is not a WWII gun but it would make a nice birthday gift

91/30 easily. It was the first one I had gotten and it is a great firearm. Fairly accurate, a work horse and easy on the wallet.
