Looking to buy myself a present. Help???

A "dream" gun? A Taurus CT9 PCC in 9mm with 30rd mag and SCAR style stock...

Hey it's in 9mm!!

But in all honesty, none of my "dream" guns are in 9mm, or you already have it as I'd like a nice example of a 1911 someday. But it's not a necessity for me, so that's a long way in the future. My advice would also be to go with a nice Beretta, to continue your collection of USA military handguns. Otherwise I would say get a real nice revolver in 45(LC)... Preferably the open top BP conversion style ;) (another on the list of luxuries)

Do you reload? That could open up other cartridges that use most of the same components, or even the dies. It would give you greater versatility than your current collection, while still keeping things pretty standardized. Maybe a .460 Rowland, .45 Colt, or 9x23 for example. I reload .45 ACP, .45 Colt, .454 Casull, and .455 Webley with 2 sets of dies, and could use the same bullet and powder in all of them if I really wanted to. It cuts down on stocking a bunch of different inventory, yet gives me the flexibility to launch a 250'ish grain bullet anywhere from 600 fps to well over 2000, from my choice of auto pistol, double or single action revolver, or rifle.

If I were in your shoes, instead of buying another pistol that does the same thing as what I already have, I'd take my favorite pistol and have it engraved. As much as the budget allows. Preferably full coverage with gold inlay and carved ivory grips.

"...My birthday just passed..." Happy Birthday. What do you want to do with it? What's your budget?
"...read several reviews..." You can read just as many saying the opposite. Go to your local gun shop and try a few on for size.

look around for a Smith & Wesson Model 945

Good luck finding one of those, there is one I know of in my friend's gunsafe and it's not coming out anytime soon!

I'd get a Nighthawk BHP Custom, at close to $3 large it ain't cheap but it's cheaper & faster than taking a new stock BHP to a pistolsmith like Jim Garthwaite to try & get one as nice!

Thanks for your suggestions

It's funny, I had a CZ 75 SP-01 and was never crazy about it after I got my sig. I gave it to my sister, but after all you have written about it, I am going to get it back and give it another chance.

I will look into some of these suggestions, but off the top of my head the DW Valor stands out.

I will spend some time looking into this, but if some of you have it, what type of "custom" work needs to be done...3.5 trigger pull, small reset (little travel) sights, etc.

Would I go to CZ Custom to find what I want or are there other places to go?

Thank you all so much

The obvious to me, is another Wilson in 9mm.....Wilson has at least 25 guns ready to ship right now on their website ....under shop --- current inventory...9mm guns are common in his CQB line....

I have a CQB in .45acp ...and a Protector model in 9mm....and both Wilsons are 2 of the finest guns I own...

You're right, they've been discontinued for several years now and can be difficult to locate but Model 945s can still be found at gun shows and on-line auctions. They're good enough to be worth the time, effort and expense to find and get one imo.

Try the CZ 97 in .45 acp, one of the most fun range guns you can have. Due to its weight, it greatly reduces the recoil of the .45 acp.

I picked up a new Colt New Agent with the black crimson trace laser grips in 45acp. Great carry gun & a lot of fun to shoot. That is my new toy.

I was interested in a Colt Gold Cup until I read several reviews telling me to stay away.

What kind of review would tell you to stay away from the Gold Cup?

It's probably not the most competitive competition-style 1911 on the market these days in it's bone-stock configuration, and it really only appeals to those looking for it's specific feature set, but it's still a fantastic pistol for the price they are asking lately. Especially when one considers its forged slide/frame, US manufacture, Colt's generally very good QA/QC, and great resale value.

I like the CZ75 SP-01 Shadow Target ll for 9mm; the CZ97 for .45ACP. Maybe even better for .45ACP is the HK Mark 23. I tried the Wilson Beretta 92, not bad, but like the CZ Shadow better.

Can't recommend the SIG p210. Nice pistol, but the X-5 and X-6 are superior for everyday shooting. I've owned the X-5 Competition, the X-5 Level l and the X-6 Level l. I shoot the X-6 best.
